Together, the team explores the future of product assembly and design , bridging research, advanced engineering, and real-world, design to manufacturing workflows for Autodesk’s customers.As a member of the team, you will have access to state-of-the-art workshops and manufacturing expertise within the Autodesk Toronto Technology Centre.About The Role: As an Intern at Autodesk, you will be immersed in driving and owning projects that directly impact our customers, internal teams, or core products. You will work alongside cross functional teams and mentors within Autodesk Research, gaining hands-on experience to further drive personal growth while contributing to early-stage research and prototype development. In this role you will investigate and prototype how AI can be leveraged to improve the design and manufacturability of mechanical assemblies. You will explore the integration of AI/ML methods in CAD/CAM, computational geometry and system’s engineering workflows to improve design fidelity, support trade-off analysis and accelerate design-to-manufacturing decision making.Responsibilities:Having a dedicated mentor who will help you navigate through Autodesk from Day 1 – all while showing you what it means to be an Autodesker! Managing your project end-to-end, including research, project planning, implementation, and demonstrationPartnering with various cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the Autodesk organizationApply your knowledge of Manufacturing, Design, Systems Engineering and state-of-the-art AI tools to create proof-of-concepts, prototypes and demonstrationsManaging incomplete, ambiguous, or evolving requirements during early concept developmentIntegration of your output into broader team initiativesServe as a manufacturing reference for the team and providing guidance with respect to the products being studiedDocument research findings, prototypes, and lessons learned for future referenceMinimum Qualifications:Currently pursuing a Master’s degree program in Robotics, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering or an equivalent discipline with a graduation date no earlier than December 2026.Proven track record of managing projects and challengesExposure to AI/ML concepts and active experience using AI tools for software development or prototypingExperience with CAD/CAM, mechanical design and reverse engineering workflowsUnderstanding of product design, manufacturing processes, and design-for-assembly principlesWorking knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including assembly design and kinematic analysisProficiency in Python and experience with software development for prototypingPreferred Qualifications: Prior experience from internships, extracurriculars, or other side projects Experience working with cross-functional teamsPassion for Autodesk and/or desire to learn more about the domainDoctoral degree program in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent disciplineExperience operating advanced manufacturing equipment (i.e. CNC mill, 3D-scanner, CMM, 3D printers)Experience designing assemblies and product development processesKnowledge of Systems Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering or quantitative trade-off methods (Multi-Attribute Utility Theory, Pareto analysis)Experience using Modelica, MATLAB, or similar tools for simulation and analysisWell versed in using, implementing and integrating AI tools or frameworksAbout the Canada Intern Program The 2026 Canada program runs for 16 weeks (Aug 31 – Dec 18). All internships are paid.
