Our mobile engineering team thrives on a core foundation of quality, collaboration, ownership, and an unwavering dedication to excellence.As a Staff Software Engineer, you will architect and develop outstanding mobile experiences that empower our hobbyists. We are looking for a team member driven by user-centric approaches, innovation, collaboration, agility, and dedication to quality. You will lead the charge in critical architectural and development guidelines that define our mobile application products. Your strategic vision and leadership will be key in ensuring our mobile experience is at the forefront of technology and provides unparalleled hobbyists experiences.What you will accomplish:Provide technical leadership for mobile engineering across the organization, influencing architecture, standards, and guidelinesBuild, architect, and hands-on develop high-quality native mobile solutions that scale to millions of usersDrive the mobile platform architecture, ensuring security, reliability, performance, and an outstanding user experienceDefine and influence the mobile technical roadmap, balancing short-term delivery with long-term platform healthPartner closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, cloud platform teams, and ML engineers to deliver cohesive, end-to-end featuresLead initiatives that improve development velocity, quality, observability, and operational excellenceIdentify technical risks early, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and implement mitigation strategiesChampion guidelines for development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and on-call readinessArchitect on-device, cloud-assisted, and hybrid AI solutions, making informed tradeoffs around performance, privacy, battery usage, and offline behaviorShip Product features capabilities using feature flags, experimentation frameworks, and gradual rollouts, and iterate based on real-world usage and feedbackWhat you will bring:12+ years of experience building native mobile applications, with deep, hands-on expertise in Android (Kotlin required)Deep understanding of mobile architecture, build patterns, lifecycle management, and performance optimizationExperience building secure, consumer-facing mobile apps with high availability and scalabilityHands-on experience with WebView integrations alongside native UI componentsExperience with Computer Vision and real-time frame processingExperience with shared C++ components across iOS and AndroidExperience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production mobile applicationsStrong understanding of secure data handling & privacy considerations, including PII, consent management, and regional compliance requirementsLeadership & Collaboration:Proven ability to lead through influence, mentor engineers, and raise the technical bar across teamsStrong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and opportunities to both technical and non-technical collaboratorsExperience working in Agile or Scrum environmentsAbility to conduct research, analyze results, and apply findings to real-world product decisionsExperience participating in or leading Tier 4 on-call support for critical systemsWhy You’ll Love Working HereA culture that values collaboration, diversity, ownership, and passionOpportunity to work on products used by millions of hobbyists worldwideThe chance to build the future of mobile and AI-powered experiences at scale!Additional DetailseBay is an equal opportunity employer.
