We hold an annual Dodgeball for Charity event at our Q2 Stadium in Austin, inviting other local companies to play, and community organizations we support to raise money and awareness together.What You’ll DoIdentify, analyze, and resolve complex SQL performance and scalability issuesDeeply analyze execution plans, indexing strategies, concurrency, locking, and resource utilizationDesign and implement durable performance improvements across queries, schemas, and workloadsBuild automation and tooling to detect, diagnose, and remediate database performance issuesPartner with application and platform teams to improve database access patterns and system designEstablish, document, and enforce database performance best practicesClearly explain complex technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiencesRequired ExpertiseCandidates must demonstrate expert-level (“can teach a class”) knowledge in all the following:SQL performance tuning and optimizationSQL Server, Postgres, AuroraQuery optimizers, execution plans, indexing, statistics, and transaction isolationDesigning and supporting database-backed APIsBuilding automation and tooling to support database performance and reliabilityInfrastructure as Code using TerraformLeveraging AI to automatically identify bottlenecksCloud platforms: AWS and Azure, including managed database servicesPerformance monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning in distributed systemsCI/CD pipelines and deployment automationCapacity planning, workload modeling, and cost optimizationWhat We’re Looking ForA proven track record of improving database performance at scaleA keen eye to spot when something isn’t right and the diligence to not stop until its resolvedStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to mentor engineers and influence architecture and design decisions • • Comfortable operating as a technical authority across teamsRESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the design and implementation of business intelligence solutions, data architecture, analytics frameworks, governance protocols, and data quality standards.
• Serve as subject matter expert in database performance, scalability, and security
• Develop and enforce enterprise standards, policies, and procedures
• Partner with senior leadership to align data architecture with business strategy
• Lead major modernization, migration, or transformation projects
• Mentor other technical staff and lead knowledge-sharing efforts
• Evaluate technology trends and make strategic recommendations
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and a minimum of 12 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with 8+ years of experience; or equivalent related work experience
• Recognized expert in database design, architecture, and optimization
• Demonstrated leadership in enterprise database strategy and execution
• Experience with cloud-native and distributed database solutions
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skillsThis position requires fluent written and oral communication in English.
