The role partners closely with product managers and other stakeholders to understand business needs, shape technical solutions, and deliver high-quality capabilities across the full stack. This engineer also contributes to AI/ML–related efforts—such as integrating models, evaluating tools, or building data-driven features—while continuing to support broader engineering projects.ResponsibilitiesRequirements & DiscoveryCollaborates with Product Managers and stakeholders to clarify objectives, constraints, and desired outcomesTranslates business needs into technical approaches, identifying risks, dependencies, and edge cases earlyProvides clear, actionable feedback that helps refine priorities and solution directionArchitecture and System DesignLeads design for major features, projects, and cross-system integrationsContributes to and reviews architectural decisions across backend, frontend, and shared servicesDrives consistency in patterns, data modeling, error handling, and observability across the codebaseDevelopmentDesigns, implements, and maintains backend services using server-side frameworks, strongly typed languages, and scalable data storage technologiesBuilds and enhances frontend applications using component-based frameworks, client-side tooling, and microfrontend or modular UI architecturesIntegrates AI/ML capabilities into existing systems when needed (e.g., inference APIs, vector search, model-driven features, data transformations)Writes clean, maintainable, and well-tested code; actively participates in and leads peer code reviewsImproves code quality by adopting effective patterns, modern tooling, and appropriate linting and formatting standardsQuality and ReliabilityDevelops unit, integration, and cross-functional tests; recommends and adopts new testing frameworksWorks with associated infrastructure to ensure system reliability and performanceTroubleshoots and resolves Level 2 and Level 3 production issues; upholds operational SLAsConducts performance analysis and optimizes services for scalability and resiliencyDevOpsCollaborates on CI/CD pipeline improvements, release workflows, and deployment automationHelps define infrastructure requirements for new services and features, including those involving ML componentsParticipates in release planning and ensures completeness and quality of production deploymentsTechnical Project ManagementProvides accurate effort estimates and breaks down complex work into actionable tasksSupports cross-team initiatives involving shared services, UI composition, and back-end integrationsPresents recommendations that inform the team’s technical roadmap and long-term strategyR&DProactively investigates emerging frameworks, tools, and architectural patterns - with a focus towards advances in the AI/ML spaceConducts feasibility assessments and develops proofs-of-concept to validate new approachesQualifications7+ years of experienceBachelor's in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent experienceExperience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems, including model inference APIs, vector embeddings, data pipelines, and LLM-powered featuresDemonstrated ability to reason about trade-offs, simplify complex problems, and deliver maintainable solutionsExposure to fine-tuning, prompt engineering, or model control-plane technologies (e.g., MCP) is advantageousExperience working in an agile development environmentComfortable giving and receiving direct, constructive feedback; works transparently and builds trust within the teamFamiliarity with Service Management concepts is desirableDesirable technical experience includes modern Node.js frameworks, TypeScript, GraphQL services, relational and NoSQL databases (such as PostgreSQL and Redis), event-streaming systems like Kafka, and contemporary front-end frameworks such as React with associated toolingThe targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are: Canada - Toronto Office TRO : 131,000 - 181,000 CAD / Annual Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.The pay range shown is based on our compensation structure in place at the time of posting and may be updated periodically based on business needs. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
