Director of Automation Engineering

The Director of Automation Engineering & AI is a strategic leadership role responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of automation, integration, and AI initiatives within our enterprise Business Technology group. This leader is a hands-on and trusted partner to the business, championing the use of technology to drive operational efficiency, accelerate innovation, and empower our teams.You will lead a team of high-performing automation and AI professionals and be accountable for the full lifecycle of our automation solutions, with a deep focus on Workato. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with a deep technical understanding of automation principles and a proven ability to build strong relationships and deliver measurable results.What You'll DoAs the leader for Automation and AI, you will drive strategy, execution, and governance across the enterprise by focusing on four key pillars:Strategy & PartnershipDevelop and execute a multi-year Automation and AI roadmap aligned with company-wide strategic prioritiesAct as a strategic partner to executive leadership, translating complex business challenges into actionable, high-impact automation solutionsCollaborate with functional leaders to identify and prioritize efficiency gains through new automation capabilitiesTechnical & Platform ExcellenceServe as the subject matter expert for our core automation platform Workato and other related automation and integration platforms  (e.g., iPaaS, RPA)Oversee the architecture, development, and maintenance of all system automations and integrations, ensuring reliability and scalabilityEstablish and lead an Automation Center of Excellence to enforce best practices, governance, and security standardsDrive the data strategy for automation flows, ensuring reliable data transfer, transformation, and accessibility for business intelligenceTeam Leadership & DeliveryBuild, mentor, and empower a high-talent, resilient team of automation and AI engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and accountabilityManage the intake, prioritization, and delivery of all automation and AI projects, ensuring quality and predictabilityProactively manage budget, expenditures, and vendor relationships (including contract negotiation and new technology evaluation)Innovation & Continuous ImprovementChampion a culture of innovation by proactively identifying and leveraging emerging tools and capabilities (AI, automation, data analytics) across all enterprise domainsContinuously improve processes and systems to enhance productivity and user experienceWhat You'll Do Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; MBA or Master's degree is a plus10+ years of progressive experience in IT, Business Systems, or Automation Engineering5 years of people management experience, preferredDemonstrated expertise and hands-on experience with Workato and other integration/automation toolsPreferred QualificationsStrong understanding of enterprise software systems, business processes, and agile project management methodologiesProven ability to build, lead, and mentor high-performing teams of technical specialistsOutstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across all levels of the organizationDemonstrated experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and complex technology projectsProven expertise in driving organizational change and promoting the adoption of new technologies.Travel Requirements & Working ConditionsReliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva officeUp to 20% travelHow You’ll Be Rewarded✅ Salary range in the US: $177,000.00 - $284,000.00✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits packageThe salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US.
