Automation EngineerStatus: Exempt/Non-exemptDepartment: Automation EngineeringPosition SummaryAutomation Engineers work with our Product Engineering Teams and Process Engineering teams to source, build, and deploy automation in effort to scale up Plug’s high volume production lines. Automation Engineers develop machine specifications, identify viable builders, develop business justifications, are active throughout engineering and building of equipment at supplier and are instrumental in demonstrating machine function and commissioning. They will be responsible for project managing the technical portions involved in the concept and build of the automation equipment. Automation Engineers are also responsible for identifying opportunities to improve operation inefficiencies/pursue continuous improvement on previously procured automation. The position reports to the Automation Engineering Leadership in Rochester, New York.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesExplore and implement automation solutions of current and future manufacturing processes.Develop the specifications and requirements to be delivered to automation builders.Evaluate the proposed solutions to determine appropriate solution based on alignment to specification, manufacturability, machine longevity, machine maintenance requirements, and cost.Ability to update machine controls software to add new functionality or improve system operation based on an understanding of programmable logic controllers and how they work within automation.Collaborate with design engineering, facilities, process engineering, quality, safety, and finance as stakeholders in automation implementation.Build connections between the automated equipment and the manufacturing support systems (MES, Quality Databases, etc.) used at each facility.Drive quality improvements using automation and inline inspection systems for part verification.Lead automation equipment testing at Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance TestsMaintain up to date backups of all machines and test system controls software.Education and ExperienceBS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field4+ years minimum experience in industrial automation, process engineering, controls development/programming, and robotic arm programmingExperience with robotics (Fanuc, Kuka, Epson, Motoman, Staubli etc) including teaching and programming.Knowledge of integration of robotics and machine vision solutions is essential.Detailed knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and software components typically used in the building of custom automation equipment.Experience installing and maintaining automation equipment in a high-volume manufacturing environment.Experience leading multi-million-dollar capital projects.Exceptional communication and presentation skills.Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking and creative problem solving.Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Strong organizational skills and attention to detailPay Rate:$62,700.00 - $94,050.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
