The Design Systems team is modernizing our UI components to improve the consistency and cohesion across all of Duolingo’s learning experiences. Over the next year, the team is expanding to establish our first motion and animation systems to systemize and scale more of what makes Duolingo so delightful. You Will... Manage a team of software engineers, including task planning and technical leadership. Own the overall planning, execution, and success of projects that directly improve the learner’s experience and top-line business metrics. Build performant, flexible, high-quality components that engineers can start using to build better products faster Collaborate with product teams across the company to harness the system so that all product and engineering teams run more smoothly, even when you are not involved day to day. You Have... 2+ years of experience leading teams of three or more engineers. People management skills, including a consistent record of mentoring and coaching team members. Proven ability to communicate technical issues effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders at different levels of the organization Proven ability to create and execute detailed plans accounting for ambiguity, dependencies, and technical complexity Ability to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA Exceptional Candidates Will Have... Experience starting a design system from scratch in a consumer-facing company Experience articulating business questions, and using available data to find answers that translate into business recommendations Familiarity or contributions to a public component library such as Material Design We invest in and support our Duos! This role is eligible for a robust compensation package of base salary, equity, and Duolingo’s world-class benefits. The starting base salary range for this role is, $ 148,800 - $ 274,600 . Actual salary may vary based on level, work experience, performance, and other factors evaluated during the hiring process.
