As an Engineering Manager at Workiva, you will serve as a leader of an agile product development team. The Engineering Manager brings passion, energy, and enthusiasm to fuel the team's success and deliver outstanding results!What You’ll DoLead a squad of engineers, SDETs, and QAA professionals, assigning roles and tasks accordingly.Represent and communicate resource needs and team-related matters to group leaders, considering priorities, roadmap, and capacity.Define, assess, and execute product quality strategy guidelines in collaboration with group leaders and individual contributors.Identify and mitigate technical risks, communicating them to the group's leadership.Collaborate with group leaders to define and plan group objectives.Promote sustainable product development practices and agile principles.Contribute to and ensure accountability for the product delivery schedule.Represent Workiva Engineering at internal and external events, actively participating in recruitment efforts.Reinforce and hold squad(s) accountable for adhering to Workiva Product Development principles, standards, and best practices.Team Performance DevelopmentAssess and document individual employee performance, recognizing their unique contributions and growth opportunities.Engage in meaningful meetings with direct reports, providing guidance and coaching in areas such as career development, assigned product development work, and overcoming obstacles. Actively address and resolve concerns raised during our one-on-one discussions.Foster open communication through skip-level meetings, building relationships and gathering valuable feedback from team members at all levels.Take responsibility for team health, ensuring a positive and engaged work environment while managing any conflicts that may arise.Prioritize the personal and professional growth of my direct reports, investing time and effort to identify and provide opportunities that align with their goals.Play an active role in the recruiting and selection process, seeking out exceptional talent and welcoming new team members with a comprehensive onboarding experience.What You’ll NeedTypically, Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years related experience, or Master’s with 3 years related experience, or PhD with 2 years related experience Minimum of 2 years of direct people management experience preferred, including supervisory experience of supervisors and/or individual contributors, demonstrating your ability to lead and develop teams.Excellent communication skills, including strong verbal, listening, and writing abilities, enabling effective collaboration and clear articulation of ideas.Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and quality in all aspects of work.Proficiency in facilitation and conflict resolution skills, fostering productive discussions and resolving issues within the team.Understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and its importance in delivering high-quality software products.Solid programming skills with a foundation in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented software design, providing you with the technical acumen to guide and support your team effectively.Progressive experience in automated testing or process improvement within the SDLC, driving continuous improvement and efficiency in software development processes.Demonstrated leadership potential, with prior team leadership experience preferred, indicating your ability to inspire, motivate, and guide a team towards success.Experience in an Agile development environment is preferred, as it aligns with our collaborative and iterative approach to software development.Knowledge of accounting or financial reporting is a plus, as it can provide valuable context for our industry-specific projects.Strong testing background is strongly preferred, showcasing your ability to ensure the quality and reliability of software products.Willingness to travel, with up to 25% travel expected for team and corporate meetings, contributing to building strong relationships and representing the company's interests.Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, if not located in a Workiva office, as we embrace flexible work arrangements.
