Senior Privacy EngineerDescription -HP is revolutionizing the way our customers experience and use our products and the way HP is doing business. We are seeking an experienced and innovative Expert Privacy Engineer to make substantial contributions to a wide array of privacy initiatives. This will ensure aligned data architecture with GDPR implementation and develop platforms to advance HP’s compliance with all legal forms of data use. The position will also strategically work to align data architecture practices with Data Governance and Privacy by Design principles at the earliest stages in development and make sure that the accumulation, analysis, and actions the business chooses which data meet established requirements. This role will assist in developing frameworks and data mapping solutions through programs, reviews, and initiatives in the areas of privacy, data protection, governance, and security. It also includes responsibility for implementing requirements and processes to ensure HP’s high ethical standards are met throughout the data use lifecycle. The Expert Privacy Engineer will contribute to existing code bases and develop new code bases using a variety of tech stacks. Expert skills with Python, Typescript/Javascript, Java, or any combination thereof are prerequisite. Inherent with those skills is a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms and the judgement to use them. Expertise with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines, either in the data engineering space or backend/frontend engineering spaces are also prerequisite. The ability to operate with initiative and tolerance for the vague and/or ambiguous with evolving requirements should also be anticipated when innovating in new, uncharted spaces. A successful candidate will also possess strong facility with Agile development practices, in addition to tooling that supports them (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).The Expert Privacy Engineer will be responsible for interactions with internal Privacy Engineering, Data Engineering, Compliance, Governance, and Data Protection teams to build and implement data privacy strategies and roadmaps. The right candidate will also be required to be an active industry participant and contributor in Privacy Architecture forums and organizations. They must be excellent communicators and have the ability to translate the complex into understandable and actionable forms. Additional work will be required in data development, modeling, architecture and privacy engineering assessments, information security gap analysis, and data system audits.Responsibilities:Manages interactions with business units to ensure compliance with Privacy by Design and Data Protection principles for HP products, services, and processesParticipate data architecture efforts and other team interactionsProvide technical advice supporting data stored on various platforms to be compliant with regulatory requirements Map solutions across the various datasets for all relevant compliant requirements Evaluate data protection and privacy practices and conduct privacy impact assessments Assist in the creation of privacy frameworks and best practices, like privacy-centric data handling guidelines and technical privacy reference architectureAssist in the development of technology strategies and roadmaps for privacy, mapping critical business priorities to dependencies, and aligning cross-functional roadmapsSupports Big Data efforts and advancing data accountability across the company through effective tools, training, and guidanceCommunicates program progress, escalations, and issue analysis to key stakeholdersActs as a key interface to data science and analytics communities within HPEducation and Experience Required:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Law Degree (J.D.) or some combination thereof related to Data Privacy education and experience6-10 years of experience as a highly skilled Software Engineer3+ years' experience in data governance/privacy/data protectionExperience in data lifecycle management that includes data definition, data lineage, data quality, data cleansing, and retentionPrivacy certification preferred (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPP-T, or CIPM)Knowledge and Skills:Excellent software engineering and/or data engineering skillsExcellent understanding of data structures and algorithmsExcellent understanding of cloud-based infrastructures and architecturesRisk modeling and privacy impact assessments skillsAbility to evaluate, test, and deploy privacy-preserving technologies and strategies to include data lifecycle management, de-identification, and big data privacyUnderstanding how data architecture impacts privacy and security programsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation), particularly the ability to communicate with diplomacy, credibility, and confidenceAbility to effectively communicate program plans, proposals, and resultsAbility to exercise good judgment and balance risks in ambiguous and complex situationsDemonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills, in particular in leading or contributing to global and multi-functional teamsHighly motivated to contribute and grow within a complex area of emerging importanceStrong interpersonal skills, ability to influence without authorityOur compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $116,900-169,500. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
