Summary Posted: Oct 31, 2022 Role Number: 200440759 One of Apple’s R&D groups is currently seeking a senior perception sensor modeling, simulation and analysis engineer. This engineer will develop parametric representations, visualizations and data driven analysis to support sensor requirements definition and perception use case validation. Candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of sensor types and unique configurations. Typical work include software models representing sensors, simulation & scenario frameworks punctuated with written and verbal presentations of analysis/results. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Skilled in the of development, theory, and design of sensor modeling and simulation techniques Fundamental understanding of optical modeling, ray tracing, and geometric evaluation of sensor data products Past experience building parametric evaluation frameworks for sensitivity studies (eg. Monte Carlo), and analyzing the resulting large data sets Experience working with internal customers to define key performance indicators and metric evaluation methods for sensing systems Intimate knowledge of sensor system engineering process (Use Cases, Requirements, V&V) Experience developing sensor specifications for use in downstream ML applications Experience with Lidar technology for applications Experience with photorealistic sensor rendering software Extensive experience in scalable scientific computing (Matlab & Python) Description Description In this role you will partner with other sensor and autonomy algorithm subject matter experts to create a scaleable sensor evaluation system. You will: Maintain a strong relationship with internal customers, hardware/software teams, and external vendors Create representative models used to analyze performance for sensor fusion, perception and machine learning use cases Create characterization plans (for other teams) to help populate and validate modeling assumptions Identify performance bounding use cases, aggressors and environments Perform simulation and analysis to support use cases and requirements/specs Education & Experience Education & Experience M.S. in Engineering + minimum of 5 years of industry experience PhD in Engineering + minimum of 3 years of industry experience Additional Requirements Additional Requirements Experience with depth sensors (LiDAR, Radar, Ultrasonics) and cameras Experience with 3d trajectory generation (equations of motion) and applicability to depth sensors Understanding of Computer Vision and State Estimation fundamentals Experience implementing and releasing software/algorithms Familiarity and experience with perception algorithms (detection, classification, tracking, etc…) Proficiency in C++ and source control (eg. GIT) Pay & Benefits Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $160,700 and $282,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
