Summary Posted: Dec 18, 2022 Role Number: 200451033 One of Apple’s R&D groups is currently seeking a kinematic and dyanamics simulation and modeling engineer. This engineer will architect, design and maintain both high fidelity multi-body dynamic simulations as well as faster parametric models used for rapid concept development. This highly cross-functional team is working hands on to prototype and develop unique dynamic systems. We are looking for passionate and creative individuals to drive a ‘sim-first’ approach to control system design! Key Qualifications Key Qualifications 8+ years of related experience in dynamic simulation, complex system modeling, physical motion analysis, and model validation on real hardware Experience with one more or more of the following simulation packages: Altair MotionView/MotionSolve, Altair Activate, Matlab Simulink/Simscape, Solidworks MotionStudy (ADAMS solver), and/or Gazebo 3D simulators. Experience with dynamic and kinematic analysis Strength in control systems ID, mechanism parameterization, friction modeling Strong in data analytics and optimization related model fitting Confident with source control (eg. GIT) on multi developer projects Familiarity with current CAD packages (ProE, Solidworks, NX) Deep passion for controls and mechatronic systems Description Description In this role you will partner with controls systems developers, motor, actuation, sensor and power electronics engineers to develop simulation capability. This work will drive architectures, refine requirements, shape program direction and enable rapid concept iteration. You will work on the cutting edge of Apple’s latest sensing, controls and motion system endeavors and build key toolchains used by the team! Responsibilities include: - Model development in the simulation packages mentioned above - Integration of parameterized plant models into controls simulation (matlab, simulink) - Developing sensor, actuator, and drive electronics emulators used in HIL test benches. - Perform parametric sensitivity studies against system KPIs - Collaborate with control systems designers to perform model based tuning & calibration on one off and higher volume actuated systems - Communicate progress cross-functionally (written, verbal, and presentation) Education & Experience Education & Experience MS or PhD in Engineering, Robotics or CS Additional Requirements Additional Requirements Nice to haves: - Experience with sensor and BLDC motor modeling and simulation - Transitioning R&D technologies into production/products Pay & Benefits Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
