Summary Posted: May 9, 2023 Role Number: 200425073 The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams. Tightly integrated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design and Reliability Testing groups, the Battery Product Development team owns battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp.
The Cell PD team works within the Battery Product Development organization to help ensure that Battery Cells meet all the critical design and safety requirements. The In-Region Cell PD Mechanical Engineer supports and drives critical battery validation activities across the entire supply chain. This individual will be responsible for validating the overall battery designs from initial system architecture through first customer ship. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications EXPERIENCE: Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills Design and 3D CAD experience required Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors Ability to create and drive innovative mechanical or product designs, using tools such as FMEA, design of experiments, GD&T including datum establishment and tolerance analyses, and collaborate with FEA team Ability to define and complete design validation activities (testing, metrology, failure and statistical analysis), make data-driven decisions, be detailed focused, and collaborate in multi-functional team environments Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation is preferred Experience directing / providing site support Familiarity with Lithium-based battery technologies is highly desired Specific experience with portable consumer electronic product or large format batteries is preferred 3+ years of working with overseas vendors 3+ years of High volume manufacturing experience 3+ years of Process development experience SKILLS: Scientific method, experimental process, root cause analysis, statistical analysis Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes and/or automation is highly desirable Disciplined in GD&T practices with close attention to datum establishment and tolerance analysis Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact with management, team members and external vendors Description Description •Provide on-site support for design validation testing / failure analysis / design of experiments (DOEs) and data collection / corrective action implementation with routine vendor audits and escalation
•Manage and track multiple priorities within program schedule requirements and drive multiple vendors towards common project goals
•Drive cell buck vehicle-development cycle: DFA/DFM/DFx, design release, test vehicle qualification & data analysis
•Drive cell REL processes continuous improvement - buck IQC, VHB IQC, VHB-cell install buy-off, cell-buck install buy-off, standardize testing execution, testing in-process data collection, post testing data collection & analysis
•Drive vendor collaboration on continuous improvement of internal CAD & tooling CAD
•Communicate cross-functionally on testing design directions and requirements
