Summary Posted: Sep 27, 2023 Role Number: 200486202 Manage a small and productive team of mechanical and thermal engineers designing validation solutions for a wide range of Apple-designed silicon devices that go into iPhone, iPad, Mac and more. We collaborate with electronic engineers and board designers to design and build fixtures for cutting-edge silicon packages, including sockets, thermal solutions, and automated testing equipment. We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead the team forward and architect designs to meet the characterization needs of future devices. You’ll work closely with internal silicon and board design teams as well as cross-functional teams designing Apple’s future products, internal silicon validation teams, and factory test solutions. A successful candidate needs to be an enthusiastic leader, work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, and be able to problem-solve outside of their respective technical area. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Successful track record of consumer electronic product design Ability to mentor engineers, identify/hire/develop talent, and grow a high-performing team 3D CAD experience required, NX preferred Experience with silicon validation methods and system thermal solutions is highly preferred Familiarity with printed circuit board and flex circuit design required Thermal system design expertise is highly desired; heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, thermoelectric heads and chillers Discipline in GD&T practices and close attention to datum establishment Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly communicate and interact with management, cross-functional teams, and external suppliers Description Description You will lead and grow a team of mechanical engineers designing the hardware required for silicon validation of Apple’s next generation SOCs. The Silicon Validation Hardware team’s mechanical/thermal group is the fastest growing part of organization and must continue to scale to meet the needs of the future. You’ll be responsible for managing the team as they work to deliver sockets, thermal stations, and test fixtures on tight schedules. Quickly resolve any problems and communicate issue status to large cross-functional teams. Lead the design of silicon characterization sockets of all types and sizes. Validate and characterize sockets and work with socket suppliers to optimize performance. Evaluate new socket technologies. Design fixtures for validation hardware that meets the varied requirements of silicon testing labs around the world. Architect and evaluate silicon and system thermal solutions in challenging environments. It will be critical to establish excellent relationships with key internal partners as well as third party suppliers as you help architect the next generation of mechanical and thermal solutions. Enabling multi-functional teams to collaborate to deliver hardware that is interoperable and arrives on-schedule is important for timely project completion. You must be able to track a wide range of issues across many programs and make sound engineering decisions, often with incomplete information. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $183,400 and $316,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
