Apple is looking for a driven, highly organized professional to serve as an Equipment Safety Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of safety standards and risk assessments. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Experience with safety standards, risk assessments, and regulatory certifications Strong knowledge of worldwide regulatory safety marks for a variety of different types of equipment and machinery Familiarity with a variety of international safety standards: IEC 61010, 60204, 62368, 60825, 62471 etc., as well as country-specific standards for industrial and lab equipment Ability to develop global safety compliance solutions for various equipment types Experience with meeting local regulations (NEC, NFPA, OSHA) and experience working with various certification agencies (UL, TUV, CSA, etc.) Knowledge of the differences between CE marking, Field Labeling and NRTL Listing for the US market Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments for lab equipment or machinery, advising teams on the correct PPE, required trainings, and developing an effective operating procedure Flexibility in selecting an effective failure analysis technique for varying investigation types, and collaboration with stakeholders through to completion Experience conducting safety testing such as ground continuity, electric strength, thermal, etc. and completing critical component lists and technical reports for safety certifications Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems Excellent organizational skills, acute to detail, and ability to balance multiple high-priority projects in a fast paced and time sensitive environment Effective communicator and proven track record to deliver clear, concise, and consistent messages in written and verbal formats to both technical and non-technical audiences Experience with laser and LED safety standards, including taking measurements, is desired but not mandatory Description Description This position is responsible for providing comprehensive safety support for all designers and suppliers of equipment within Apple, to ensure that all Apple employees are working with safe and compliant equipment.
As part of our team, you will:
Engage with EHS team members to provide support for any equipment being developed or purchased for use in Apple workspaces and labs
Provide guidance to stakeholders to ensure all equipment meets regulatory requirements, review equipment and identify possible hazards and methods for mitigation
Identify the correct safety standards and conduct an analysis on equipment being developed, which may include testing or engagement with local regulatory bodies
Education of equipment designers and purchasers for regulatory needs and component selection criteria
Evaluation of systems and processes to ensure employee safety during installation, operation and maintenance. This will include assigning various employee trainings, developing appropriate signage and standard operating procedures
Develop and implement strategies to systematically control and reduce safety hazards
Conduct safety evaluations and incident investigations in a variety workplace settings including but not limited to office spaces, research laboratories and warehouses
Build inspection criteria checklists and perform lab EHS inspections on high-risk equipment, and assign and track corrective actions
Be responsible for a variety of different types of equipment such as fixtures, tools, robots, machinery, control panels, measurement equipment, lasers and prototypes
Assist with new installations (lab planning, use approvals, design reviews)
Perform site risk assessments, mitigation, move and remediation planning Education & Experience Education & Experience BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or relevant subject area.

This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,300 and $197,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
