We are looking for an experienced Electrochemical Modeling Manager to lead and oversee our electrochemical modeling team that specializes in physics based modeling of li-ion battery performance and degradation, to guide the cell design and chemistry development, especially in the early product architecture phases. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing computational models to enhance our understanding of electrochemical processes, improve existing technologies, and drive innovation. The work will involve multi-disciplinary expertise, primarily electrochemistry (special focus on Li-ion batteries in consumer electronics), mechanical and thermal engineering as well as software development. You will also collaborate with the Mechanical FEA manager in the team to help define the ongoing technology development roadmap, to bring in new modeling and testing capabilities in order to enhance our simulation-driven design methodology. This role entails deep expertise in the field of battery electrochemistry modeling, testing as well as numerical methods of data analysis, modeling, and optimization and also effective cross-functional collaboration to drive overall product success. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications B.S. +10 years of relevant industry experience in physics-based modeling of thermo-electrochemical and mechanical performance/safety characterization of lithium cells. Leadership experience, including managing a team of researchers or engineers. Strong proficiency in relevant software and programming languages (e.g., COMSOL, MATLAB, Python, C). Ability to drive effectively with other specialists and teams to build and validate high-fidelity, high-accuracy models with test data and cell design/manufacture documentation. Proven ability to develop battery modeling capabilities and their application at a large production level scale. Thorough understanding of battery materials, chemistry and testing, manufacturing processes. Experience in cell aging mechanism identification, characterization, and modeling. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and presentation abilities. Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work. Prior experience in consumer electronics industry is a plus. Description Description Lead the development of sophisticated electrochemical models to simulate and analyze various processes, such as battery chemistry, corrosion, and electroplating.
Manage a team of electrochemical modeling experts, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Work closely with the Mechanical FEA Manager within the team to plan and execute couple simulations development and applications, to enable studying structural damage induced effect on cell performance, including phenomenons such a particle cracking.
Oversee and guide mathematical modeling of the electrochemical behavior of lithium-ion cells using reduced order models such as single particle model, P2D model as well as 3D detailed Comsol and coupled multi-physics models.
Oversee multiple modeling projects simultaneously, ensuring they align with company objectives and are completed within established timelines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and product developers, to integrate modeling insights into product design and optimization.
Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in electrochemical modeling and related fields, integrating new findings into the company's projects. Explore opportunities to collaborate with universities and research labs, to develop new capabilities.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of modeling methodologies, results, and findings for internal and external partners.
Develop and implement detailed workflows for software development, maintenance and version control.
Plan and manage ongoing research and stay up to date on new technologies and approaches for battery modeling and simulation. Find opportunities to improve modeling techniques, tools, and software used within the team.
Strategize and carry out collaborations with universities and external labs to develop new techniques and explore new research areas to drive future technologies.
Communicate technical concepts and results to internal and external partners as well as senior management.
Help define and implement the simulation driven methodology across the multi-physics modeling capabilities, including electrochemical and coupled mechanical, thermal.
Ensure effective support battery modeling work for all product lines: iPhone, Watch, Mac, iPad, Audio. Education & Experience Education & Experience B.S.+ 10 years of relevant experience. The base pay range for this role is between $183,400 and $316,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
