Summary Posted: Oct 13, 2023 Role Number: 200511573 The GPU Silicon Characterization Team is responsible for characterizing the behavior of Apple's embedded GPUs and determine the best settings to optimize power and performance. We work together with the design, verification, productization, hardware and software teams to enable world-class GPUs in the embedded space! In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation and execution of validation/characterization plans that focus on power and performance features within the embedded GPU. We are involved in test planning, test execution, status communication, data analysis, failure triage, and tool development. You will devise and run experiments to enhance performance, improve operating margins, minimize power usage and help achieve performance/Watt targets for current and future Apple embedded GPUs! While driving towards these results, you will create test plans, communicate status, and lead debug efforts. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Proven experience in Silicon Validation and/or Characterization. Deep understanding of Computer Architecture, Clocking (PLLs, Clock tree), Power Delivery Systems and On-Chip SoC Telemetry systems. Deep understanding of Power Consumption & Management Techniques in CMOS circuits and Low Power Design (Dynamic Clock/Power Gating and Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling). Strong understanding of common mechanisms: thermal protection, over-voltage and over-current protection, droop-mitigation. Proficient in C/C++ and one or more of the following scripting languages: Python, TCL/expect, or similar. Solid understanding of data-analysis methods and tools. Previous experience with Manufacturing flows (Binning, V/F Guard-banding) a strong plus. Previous experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) is a plus. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and have a positive influence on the team. Description Description • Identify and work with collaborators in various multi-functional teams (Architecture, Design, Verification, SW, System-Level-Test (SLT) and Manufacturing) to identify challenges in characterizing and productizing various optimization features. • Provide design guidance to the Architecture and Design teams, based on multi-functional feedback, and drive improvements at the RTL level. • Establish and improve Silicon Feature Characterization methodologies for efficiency, detecting corner-cases and improve correlation against pre-silicon to help current and future designs. • Design, Review, Communicate GPU Silicon Characterization Plans. • Bring-up, validate and characterize silicon features and drive them to mass production. • Develop, Improve and Maintain Automation tools to enable silicon characterization, optimization, and visualization of results.
