Apple is seeking a hardworking engineer to support the design and integration of Apple’s excellent products by leading overall investigation on sophisticated optical and electro-optical components inside camera, display and sensing modules. You will work with both suppliers and internal teams at Apple to craft the optical related technologies that go into Apple products. The team features a diverse engineering roster including optical engineers, material engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self-motivated. A successful candidate needs to be a flexible thinker and be able to solve problems outside of their respective technical area. Key Qualifications Key Qualifications Knowledge and experiences of nano-optics manufacture process including deposition, lithography, nano-imprint, etching etc. Knowledge and experience of thin film or nanostructure optical design and modeling, process and characterization Knowledge of thin film and nanostructure related metrologies (XPS, SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD, SIMS, FT-IR, etc.) and optical devices related characterization methods (interferometer, spectrometer, ellipsometry, etc.) Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multi-functional team Description Description - Take total ownership to drive advanced optical technologies from early conceptual exploration to high fidelity prototypes and high volume consumer products delivery - Identify areas where optical components can improve display, camera, sensor performance and customer experience - Identify and define manufacturable equipments and process (including deposition, patterning and etch) solutions for technically complex nano-fabricated optical components to enable new designs and functional requirements - Lead the multi-functional interaction with Product Design, Engineering/Operations, and drive the international suppliers to deliver optics components/modules - Lead root causes analysis and trouble-shooting for failures and component performance improvement - Define Engineering Requirement Specification (ERS) for the optical components IQC, OQC, and IPQC - Provide crisp and rigorous presentation and report to a broad range of collaborators, including management, peers, and suppliers Education & Experience Education & Experience - MS or PhD in Optics, Engineering Physics, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry or equivalent with 10+ years of experience in related field Additional Requirements Additional Requirements Preferred Qualifications - Hands-on experience and proven track record in areas relating to optics, optical coating or advanced semiconductor process technology development - Knowledge and experiences of diffraction optics, metasurface optics or nanophotonics - Knowledge of experiences of optical, FEA or Multiphysics simulation software, such as COMSOL Pay & Benefits Pay & Benefits At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
