Principal Electrical EngineerStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: AutomotivePosition SummaryThe Principal Electrical Engineer is a key member of the Engineering team. In this position the individual will have responsibilities in multiple areas. Broadly, the responsibilities will include new product design and introduction, sustainment of current generation products, coaching and mentoring of departmental talent and assisting with regulatory and certification challenges. Development, Maintenance of Fuel Cell Designs – Pushing limits of the technology, Architecting Next-Generation FC systems and assisting the organization with problem solving and sustainment challenges with present Generation Products currently in use in on-road and stationary applications.Coaching and Mentoring of departmental talent, including junior Engineers and technical staff by contributing to their professional development by serving as mentors.Be an integral part to help in the enhancement of the current technology by establishing and developing processes to build out and make more efficient the operations within the engineering department.Be integrally involved with the certification process and have demonstrable experience in working with established regulatory bodies such as for e.g. Intertek, FM, UL, CSA, FAA etc. Must have a track record of successfully participated in the certification process, ideally engaged at multiple stages such as reading and understanding standards, requirements analysis, certification strategy, communication with regulatory agents and troubleshooting and guidance during the testing phase. Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesConceptualize, design, and deliver fuel cell control systems.Create interconnect diagrams and specify cable and harness assemblies that meet current industry standards.Specify, source, and test off-the shelf electrical components.Create requirements, design, source, and test custom electrical controls.Ensure designs meet required ASIL hazard classifications (Automotive Safety Integrity Levels).Work hand-in-hand with key external partners to create requirements for new products and deliver them.Work across functional groups and with outside vendors to develop innovative solutions to meet design requirements.Proactive in providing value-added solutions to current designs.Collaborate with the Systems Team to ensure firmware meets the required intent of the overall electrical architecture.Collaborate with Operations Team to achieve manufacturability and cost milestones.Collaborate with the Service Team to ensure ease of maintenance of products.Responsible for the review and approval of contractor electrical design deliverables.Become a leader and expert for Plug Power fuel cell systems.Support all active projects and new project development as required.Lead and mentor entry level Electrical Engineers.Must represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.Coach and Mentor Departmental TalentEvaluate next generation component for use in new productsRepresent the Electrical Engineering Group with Certification and Regulatory Challenges Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution10 or more years of relevant work history in Electrical Engineering.Minimum of 10 years in New Product Design and IntroductionProficient in Microsoft Office suite.Proficient in a PCB design tool such as Altium or PADS.Familiarity with 1-line drawing tool is a plus (ideally Creo Schematics)Demonstrate analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.Superior written and oral communication skills.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Experience in leading and/or coordinating cross-functional teams.Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical skills.Must be a team player with a customer-oriented mindset.Comfort in C-Program and an interest in Firmware development will be preferredMust be driven and self-motivated.Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.Ability to travel, sometimes overseas, as needed to carry out duties of the position.Demonstratable experience working with Regulatory AgenciesDemonstratable experience in talent developmentNot a full-time remote position, will require periodic on-site presence for the hands-on requirements and need for lab accessExperience bringing new products to market: Transition from R&D to ManufacturingPreferred Skills and Experience:Familiarity with designing for the Automotive Electrical Vehicle market a plus.Familiar with working with large partner automotive groups.Familiar with designing equipment that achieves IP67 rating.Experience with hazardous area designHigh-Voltage & High-Power ExperienceTechnical Leadership and an interest in mentoring will be a plusTechnical Writing Skills.People management or Mentoring experience is a plusBroad level experience ranging in New Product Introduction is a major plusExperience working in R&D focused role is a major plusExperience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing) is a plusPay Rate:$86,815.00 - $138,904.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
