Senior System Engineer – Hydrogen PlantStatus: Exempt (salaried)                                                                  Department: Energy SolutionsPosition SummaryThe Senior System Engineer plays a critical role in the Engineering and Operation Support function for green Hydrogen generation and liquefaction plant. This position is responsible for maintaining the design and operation support of hydrogen generation, compression, liquefaction, and storage at US plant locations. By collaborating with Projection Execution and Operation, the Senior System Engineer will develop a comprehensive understanding of the process and system integration of the green Hydrogen plant and will be an integral part of continually improving  design and productivity while providing engineering support throughout the engineering, commissioning/startup, plant performance test, and continuous operation phases. This role is vital to support Plug Power technology to further the Company’s reputation as the industry leader in gas/liquid hydrogen plant development and operation.    Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesBy partnering with the engineering, production, commissioning, and plant operation, maintenance teams, develop a thorough understanding of the process and performance requirements of the Hydrogen plant. Actively contribute to ongoing efforts to improve effectiveness and design.Provide on-site engineering assistance for plant commissioning, PSSR, startup, and maintenance activities. Offer remote or on-site technical support to operational facilities in distress.Support site project and operations, including process engineering to the development of process design package, design and selection of relief devices, safety instrumented systems and control function description. Establishing/improve SOP and process safety procedures and practices to meet PSM and RMP compliance requirements.Collaborate with consultants/specialists through contracted services, on equipment specification and selection, equipment maintenance and implementation of new technologies.Support PHA program and process safety information for operation units/facilities. This includes leading/participating PHAs, ensuring appropriate team involvement, conducting LOPA/SIL analysis, reviewing recommendation, and developing corresponding technical solution for risk mitigation. Maintain/update as-built P&ID, PFD and HMB engineering records.Identify opportunities for plant performance and process KPI improvement with site operation teams. Utilizing varieties of engineering tools such as process simulation software (Unisim/AspenPlus), data historians (PI/OSI products or similar data historian).   Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution, MS is preferred.Five (5) or more years of relevant experience working in process/chemical plant environment in OSHA PSM facility and system/process engineering/operation.Strong knowledge of material balance, process engineering, control/automation system, process safety management (MOC, PSSR, corrective actions, MI, etc.)Hand-on experience in specifying and troubleshooting process equipment including compressors, expanders, pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tank, liquefaction and purification packages, and piping system.Hands-on experience in specifying and troubleshooting different process instruments and measurement systems such as gas analyzer, control valves, relief valves, transmitters.Working knowledge of industry codes and standards including NFPA, API, and ASME.Problem analysis skills and capacity to deal with ambiguitySuperior written and oral communication skills.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Must be driven and self-motivated.Experience in leading and and/or coordinating cross-function project teams.Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position – up to 30%.Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.Preferred Skills and Experience:Experience with large scale construction projects, durations of 6 to 18 months or operation/design experience with liquefied hydrogen, electrolyzer processes.Lead and mentor younger process/facility engineersTechnical Writing Skills in procedure development (SOP, integrated operation manuals, commissioning/maintenance procedures)Professional Engineer CertificationPay Rate:$75,240.00 - $112,860.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
