Senior Engineering Technician Status: Non-Exempt (hourly)Department: Engineering COEPosition SummaryPlug Power, a leading provider of comprehensive hydrogen fuel cell turnkey solutions, is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician at our headquarters in Latham NY to support the product development and testing of fuel cell stacks. We offer a culture that is ideally suited to people who enjoy the focus, collaboration, and discipline required to shape innovative technologies into real-world products.The Senior Engineering Technician will support the design, build, troubleshooting and commissioning of test equipment, hardware and software used for testing and development of fuel cell stacks and components. This individual will become knowledgeable of stack and component testing processes and key technical parameters for which instrumentation is required. The ideal candidate should be able to exercise independent judgment while also approaching problem-solving with a hands-on method. This individual must be able to effectively communicate with the cross-functional engineering teams to ensure proper communication.  The Senior Engineering Technician should be creative, self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments within a fast-paced engineering organization.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesBuild test-equipment and test-stations for testing fuel cell stacks and components, mechanical and electromechanical parts such as pumps, fans, valves, etc and electrical components like batteries. Operationalize, troubleshoot, and commission the equipment.Utilize piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical wiring diagrams to understand component and instrumentation layouts for station installation, make recommendations, and implement solutions.Conduct scheduled as well as breakdown maintenance on equipment, calibrate instrumentation as per schedule, maintain the log.Assist engineers in identification and specification of instrumentation.Gain understanding of fuel cell performance and operating parameters like cell voltage, cell resistance, gas and coolant flow rates and pressures, gas humidity and dewpoint and temperatures.Perform tests as needed to demonstrate test station operation.Always follow safety protocols and propose improvements to procedures, as necessary.Utilize excel to plot and present data. Develop and write reports based on tests conducted.Communicate with engineering staff to resolve test station design details and problems.Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions.Perform all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceAssociates degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or a similar technical field or military certification, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.Eight (8) + years of related work history preferably within a technology product manufacturing environment in product testing.Experience in wiring DC circuits, control devices and instrumentation.Ability to read and create wiring diagrams (MS Visio or similar experience helpful).Ability to debug and troubleshoot electric circuits and mechanical systems.Experience in soldering and pinning connectors.Basic AC power knowledge/experience (single/three phase).Computer skills (driver installs, basic computer problem troubleshooting).Experience with National Instruments data acquisition hardware, or PLC-type hardware experience helpful.Mechanical experience with installing instrumentation and control elements (thermocouples, pressure transducers, control valves, etc).Mechanical aptitude for constructing test stands (mounting hardware and instrumentation, running conduit and tubing, fabricating mounting brackets).Able to read and understand piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and process flow diagrams (PFDs).Experience plumbing and leak checking pipe and tube fittings in flow systems.Ability to review technical documentation and find substitute parts as necessary.Ability to operate under own initiative, to improve projects without implicit instructions when situation(s) encountered.Experience with a structured Engineering Change Process and related procedures.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Possess solid hands-on approach to problem-solving.Computer and software systems skills including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.Ability to exercise independent judgement.Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levels.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.Excellent follow-through.Must be driven and self-motivated.Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.BonusExperience with electronic boards and components.Experience calibrating sensors.Familiarity with LabVIEW.Experience with fuel cells, flow batteries, batteries is a plusPay Rate:$25.94 - $37.41We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
