Sr. Big Data EngineerStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: Information TechnologyPosition Summary:We are looking for a talented and savvy individual to join Plug Power as a Sr. Big Data Engineer. The Sr. Big Data Engineer will help solve complex business problems and drive innovation by building and deploying highly scalable and efficient data pipelines, and by creating streamlined processes for new datasets. This role will be required to design and implement Big Data tools and frameworks, implement ELT/ETL integration processes, collaborate with development teams, build cloud platforms, and maintain the production system. The Sr. Big Data Engineer will support our software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.Core Duties and Responsibilities:Understand and execute using different data transformation tools, techniques, and algorithms.Prepare automated data pipelines to transform and feed the data into dev, QA and production environments.Enable key insights for business, operations, compliance, financial use cases.Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements, consistently validating data and making it available to all necessary stakeholders.Lead the technical design, development, maintenance, documentation and support of the data warehouse and data marts.Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.Evaluate, compare, and improve data pipelines. This includes design pattern innovation, data lifecycle design, data ontology alignment, annotated data sets and elastic search approaches.Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources.Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data needs.Create data tools and documentation for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.Being a point of contact for the data analyst, data engineer, data scientist and the project/functional analytics leads.Training staff on data resource management.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline in relevant field and 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.Strong communication, critical analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Strong programming skills in Java, C#, C++, Scala, R, or Python.3-5 years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining data ingest pipelines, data warehouse and data lake solutions in a cloud environment such as Azure for use and integration with data visualization tools such as Power BI.Experience working with big data technologies.Experience with message queuing, stream processing and highly scalable data stores.Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.Experience building processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.Working knowledge of agile development, including DevOps and DataOps concepts.Understanding of data governance principles, data privacy regulations, and security best practices.A desire to completely understand the product and become a subject matter expert, as is necessary in order to properly support the platform.Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities. This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.
