Materials EngineerStatus: Exempt (salaried)Department: Materials and Stack Engineering Position SummaryThe Materials Engineer role will support the design and development of fuel cell systems and associated components for current and future products. The occupant of this role must maintain an acute knowledge of fuel cell product performance requirements and relevant field utilization data. This information must then be used to help make effective engineering decisions related to material usage and optimal material integration within Plug Power’s fuel cell products. Through systems analysis, computational fluid mechanics analysis, finite element methods and hands-on testing, the Material Engineer will drive continuous improvement in product design and performance.Core Duties and Responsibilities Perform various analyses necessary for the materials and conceptual design of fuel cell systems in order to meet functional, performance and cost requirements.Coordinate analytical studies as needed to demonstrate design performance at both component level and sub-system level.Provide expertise in the areas of specialized corrosion, coatings and metal fabrication technologies; lend insights for product design decisions regarding these areas.Validate products and designs as related to electrochemical systems and electrochemical principles.Construct testing methods as required and perform laboratory experiments to substantiate material recommendations; demonstrate ability to conduct hands-on component and system testing.Initiate chemical process modeling using thermodynamic principles, material balances, and energy balances.Work with advanced sourcing on fuel cell materials consolidation and materials road map.Add to fuel cell materials selection handbook.Solve problems using structured engineering processes such as 8D, 6 Sigma, or Robust Design (Taguchi methods).Support design and characterization of fuel cell air filters.Contribute to internal project teams as needed to support Company technology deployments and related efforts.Ability to travel up to 10%Represent Plug Power with the highest professional and ethical standards at all times and in all interactions.Perform other duties as assigned.Education and Experience Bachelors degree in material science, chemical or mechanical engineering; Masters degree preferred.3 years of relevant work experience – preferably within a technology manufacturing environment.Adept at utilizing a variety of design tools including chemical simulation software.Skilled in the principles of Finite Element Analysis (FEA).Working knowledge of Pro Engineer Mechanica for thermal and heat transfer analysis.Proficiency with CFDesign for CFD analysis.Ability to clearly communicate goals, findings, and issues.Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.Experience with Matlab and Simulink a plus.Exceptional data analysis and presentation skills.Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking and creative problem solving.Ability to work effectively in both a self-directed and team environment.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office software.Must be highly driven and motivated to achieve goals.Pay Rate:$62,700.00 - $94,050.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
