This is a unique opportunity to join a talented team of scientists at the frontiers of innovation in sequencing. At Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment and help create novel molecular biology tools for the preparation of samples for analysis on Illumina platforms. Through integration of molecular biology, sequencing chemistry and hardware components, you will participate in the development of high quality, robust new products.  This position will require working as a part of multidisciplinary team developing state-of- the-art technology.ResponsibilitiesDevelop innovative technologies and assays for next-generation sequencing platforms.Innovate new library prep methods and devise solutions to technical issues.Independently design, execute, and analyze experimental studies in support of project goals.Troubleshoot and optimize workflows and assays to improve performance.Be a strong individual contributor and take part in cross-functional team-driven collaborationsMaintain detailed records of experimental work and analysis.Effectively communicate experimental results and next steps to team members at regular meetings.Complete goals within defined timelines.Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.RequirementsPhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioengineering, Chemistry or similar field preferred.5+ years laboratory research experience.Expertise in biochemistry and molecular biology with hands-on experience in a wide variety of molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis and manipulation.Experience with library preparation / NGS (including RNA-Seq) preferred.Strong analysis and experimental design skills.Demonstrated ability to effectively identify technical issues, troubleshoot and propose resolutions.Must be a creative, detail-oriented person with excellent analytical, verbal and written communications skills.Exceptional collaboration skills and track record of technical achievement.The estimated base salary range for the Sr Scientist - Assay Research & Development role based in the United States of America is: $86,500 - $129,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
