Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.Position SummaryAs a Senior Staff Scientist within Illumina’s Research and Development team, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary research and development team to help create innovative multi-omic assays and workflows that integrate seamlessly with Illumina’s end-to-end systems and help develop leapfrogging technology improvements of Illumina’s core NGS library prep portfolio. You will play an important role in the research and development of NGS assay reagents and consumables with the world-class performance, stability and robustness characteristics that our customers require. You will lead a research, technical development or product development project, or subfunction of a project. You will also be driving technical decision-making for the organization or at the platform or large project level. And you will be expected to identify new opportunities for innovative products using the company’s core technologies, and drive prioritization and technical planning.We are looking for an experienced and expert assay scientist with management experience, who will lead the team in innovating at the cutting edge of technology and applications for assays and sequencing.Responsibilities:Build out and lead a local team of assay scientists which will be part of a larger global teamLead and execute large-scale, multi-disciplinary research, technical development, or product development projects, plans project level activities and budgets and drives prioritization of activities Influence technical direction across multiple projects which impact technology, processes and products and identify and own functional development initiatives and drive efficiencies and effectiveness in organization Drive innovation to solve technically complex problems at departmental levelSubmit invention disclosures or innovative ideas for technology processes and products, guide others in the submission processLead major core teams or subteams and consistently deliver novel solutions to significant technical challenges outside of core teams and identify the need for (and lead) technical change in response to internal and external factorsCoach project team members and mentor emerging technical leadersAll listed tasks and responsibilities are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilitiesRequirements:Experience in team leadership and team performance management, track record in hiring and attracting talent to the organization.
