AT&T first opened the Breinigsville facility in the late 1980s and this facility served as Bell Labs’ world headquarters for optoelectronics.  Through a series of acquisitions, the Breinigsville facility is now an integral part of Broadcom’s Optical Systems Division, manufacturing InP lasers and detectors that support telecommunications customers throughout the world. Job descriptionBroadcom is seeking an experienced Epitaxy Engineer to develop and maintain MOCVD growth and characterization methods for III-V materials and devices.  Located in Breinigsville, PA, our high volume, 24/7 manufacturing facility produces products to enable fiber optic communication expansion.  Successful candidate should have experience with Indium Phosphide based growth processes, characterization, and device physics, and will join an exceptional team with strong history of success.  This position reports to the Epitaxial Engineering Manager.Responsibilities and DutiesProcess ownership – develop, maintain, optimize and document existing MOCVD processes for Indium Phosphide material growthsFamiliarities for characterization in particular PL mapping, XRD, FTIR, and profilometer toolsProvide scientific expertise in all MOCVD materials growth techniques and characterization measurements, develop new methods processes as neededImprove growth processes and analysis through automation via scriptingAssist with device correlation to MOCVD growth material defects to drive product improvementPlan projects including design of experiments, lead/take ownership of projects to develop/qualify new processes and tools, complete projects on time and within budgetGenerate internal technical reports, document existing and new measurement proceduresCommunicate and collaborate with team, escalate issues as necessaryQualifications and SkillsPhD with +3 years or MS with +6 years of related experience in following fields of study:Physics (Experimental, solid state)Materials ScienceElectrical EngineeringStrong applied, hands-on approach to semiconductor growth tools and processes, Indium Phosphide MOCVD experience preferredSolid knowledge of materials and characterization techniques (photoluminescence, HRXRD, AFM, SEM, SIMS, FTIR)Knowledge of semiconductor materials and optical devicesExceptional communication skillsWorks well in team environmentCritical thinking and structured problem solving techniquesFamiliarity with SQL, JMP, Python is a plusAdditional Job Description:Compensation and BenefitsThe annual base salary range for this position is $91,200 - $152,000.This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.Broadcom offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package: Medical, dental and vision plans, 401(K) participation including company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company paid holidays, paid sick leave and vacation time.
