Our Infrastructure organisation builds and operates the technology platform upon which this service is delivered from our global data centres. The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team within the Infrastructure organisation supports an ever scaling environment spanning several data centres and are responsible for the availability of this environment on which the Workday application runs. The team is composed of highly skilled Systems Engineers and Network Engineers located in our Pleasanton (US), Dublin (IE) and Auckland (NZ) offices. Our mission is to focus 100% on Production Operations including application uptime, helping the business deliver new products and features and supporting our growing customer base. Workday is looking for a Senior System Engineer (DevOps) to join our Infrastructure SRE team based in Auckland, New Zealand. This position requires advanced knowledge of Production System Engineering with an emphasis on Operational excellence and Infrastructure as code.About the RoleYou must enjoy the fast pace of a SaaS company, where the requirements for the data centre infrastructure will change rapidly. Your daily work will have a direct impact on our customers and our business. In this role you will work and grow in a collaborative distributed team, sharing responsibility for maintaining the uptime of Workday’s production and development environments. Contribute to the development of software solutions by employing an Infrastructure-as-code model to build, scale, monitor, maintain and improve the operational support of our rapidly growing server infrastructure. Grow our efficiency by eliminating toil through automation.Work closely with internal teams and our customers to help resolve complex incidents.About YouBasic QualificationsBachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Software Engineering or equivalent industry work experience and a minimum of 5-7 years experience supporting sophisticated large scale environments.Experience running and maintaining a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment, preferably across multiple data centres both in the Public and Private Cloud.UNIX/Linux systems knowledge and/or systems administration background (CentOS, RedHat etc) in a senior role.Other QualificationsCoding capabilities in at least one of the following functional languages: Python, Ruby, Go, C or Java and familiarity with how to perform build automation and provisioning tasks through Terraform, Chef, Ansible or K8s.Familiarity with HashiCorp tools such as Vault and Consul.Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills.Ability to balance multiple projects and tasks, make decisions and solve problems while under pressure. Ability to prioritise/organise your work effectively.Understanding of enterprise level thinking with regards to security, scalability, performance, monitoring, reliability, documentation, root cause analysis and capacity-trending. Strong interpersonal skills to self-lead your day-to-day activities and build relationships with the extended organization.Our Approach to Flexible Work With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote.
