We embrace diversity in thought and contribution and are committed to providing an equitable work environment. that is foundational to our core values as a company and is vital to our success.Job SummaryThe Senior Director Design Delivery leads a team of multi-disciplinary engineers, architects, and managers and is responsible for a portfolio of data center projects across LATAM, USA and Canada.These projects can include: new construction, phased expansion, retrofits and upgrades, acquisition conversions, and large-scale mechanical and electrical equipment selections.The Senior Director will be an industry recognized expert on data center design and an experienced mid-sized team manager. The Design Delivery leader critically assesses design decisions and collaborates with peers in other regions to ensure global consistency. They are a key partner in the assessment and adoption of new technology and capabilities within Equinix's data center design.ResponsibilitiesPeople ManagementLeads and develops a team of design (people) managers and is accountable for a large portfolio (60+) of world-class data center designs across the AmericasEffectively communicates with senior business collaborators to ensure designs meet Equinix’s Global Design Standards and the business needs for capacity, density and functionMentors those that work for them or in related design delivery teams to ensure the design delivery function grows in line with the company's needs and continues to lead the industryDesign ProcessResponsible for the choice of design partners and for individual assignment to projectsReviews and contributes to the development of tools, techniques and processes for the management and reporting of the design process to ensure local appropriateness and global consistencyWorks across Design Delivery functions at the Global and Regional levels to ensure productization of equipment, means, and methodsSets strategy with internal and external resources by way of their influence, outstanding interpersonal skills and industry-recognized proficienciesCross-Functional CoordinationMaintains outstanding relationships with the Regional President, Corporate Development leaders, and Design Partners to ensure clarity, high quality and on-time delivery of projects that meet Equinix's global design standardsWorks with peers in the Global Design and Construction Center of Excellence and Regional teams to drive consistency and technical excellence on design and delivery practicesDrives global consistency in design delivery approach and critically evaluates structural change, tools and methodologies to support this endeavorProject ManagementLeads all aspects of the complete portfolio of assigned design works for a region or globallyRuns the allocation of projects to sub-region or global sub-function staff members based on skills and the needs of the portfolio and act as a key partner in the decision-making process about scale and yield for individual phases and the all-phases designIn the Regional role:Signs off on design budgets, and authorizes change management requests during the construction phaseIn the Center of Excellence function:Approves designs that are compliant with Global Design Standards, or negotiates deviations with peers and managementDesign OversightIn the Regional role:Advises on advancements in design being investigated by the Center of Excellence departments to ensure technologies support future Data Center design and construction needs and meet the evolving needs of the customerIn the Center of Excellence role:Evaluates and produces a development roadmap which aligns with an evolution in need and global design standardsLeads development for adoption and ensures wide peer review with Regional colleagues in refinementQualifications, skills and experienceDemonstrated ability in leading the design team of a data center operator, hyperscaler or mission critical building operator (e.g. biotech/pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, electric vehicles) or subcontractor is criticalSubstantial experience in either a Mechanical, Engineering and Plumbing (MEP) firm or engineering consultancy are also essentialValidated ability as a manager of teams (10+ people) in the design sphere including as manager of (people) managersMSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering OR MSc in Architecture is preferred, BSc acceptable or extensive and demonstrable experience in roleProfessional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is crucialEquinix is an Equal Employment Opportunity and, in the U.S., an Affirmative Action employer. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.This position may be offered in other locations.
