Calix is seeking a Systems Administrator with expertise in virtualization technology to join their high-performing Product Operations and Engineering team. This team provides infrastructure services for the development of cutting-edge networking and SaaS products. The ideal candidate should have experience in virtualization, modern IT service management, DevOps, Agile methodology, product development lifecycle, and best practices.Role DescriptionThe Systems Administrator - Product Engineering Infrastructure should ideally have 2-4 years of experience. In this role, you will closely collaborate with software development and product teams to deliver virtual infrastructure services using technologies like VMWare, AWS, or other public cloud providers worldwide. Your responsibilities include working with support teams to provide the necessary infrastructure services for development staff, ensuring secure and prompt delivery of systems to customers, and continuously improving services by suggesting upgrades, patching strategies, and service level agreements. Successful candidates will have a technical background, strong problem-solving abilities, and a dedication to delivering robust and reliable solutions. Additionally, you should be committed to developing high-performance teams through a standards-based approach, customer service mindset, and the application of ITIL best practices.Responsibilities: Administration of core technologies including converged infrastructure, storage systems, server hardware, networking, and virtualization technologies.Administration of operating systems including Linux and Windows.Manage and prioritize work queue through request and incident tickets.Participate with critical incident response activities, including investigation, and resolution.Documentation of systems, including but not limited to configuration management and support processes.Identify and resolve a wide range of novel issues.Collaborate with internal personnel at all levels of the organization.Document requirements from stakeholders and translate to actionable tasks.Collaborate with external partners and vendors.Work with vendors to stay informed on the latest technologies.Participate in vendor performance reviews (systems health checks, best practice, solutions development).Develop metrics, track, and proactively improve productivity of the team.Required Qualification & Skills2-4 years of experience in IT or related systems administration role.Excellent oral & written communication skills.Strong interpersonal and organizational skill.Ability to evaluate and prioritize tasks in an evolving environment.Ability to work independently.Ability to analyze data and recommend solutions that balance risk to business with no need for service interruptions.Ability to show root cause of an issue.Occasional availability for off hours meetings to support offshore teams.Minimum 4-year degree or similar technical training.Occasional travel as required.Desired Skills:Certification in virtualization/hypervisor management using VMWare ESXi, Horizon VDI, and other VMWare based technologies.IP networking, virtual networking (VLANs, Subnets, Routing, DNS, MAC Filtering).Other hypervisor experience (KVM, Hyper-V).Public Cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure).Containers, Docker, Kubernetes.IT Service management, ITIL methodology.Server class hardware support.Converged/hyperconverged infrastructure.SAN/NAS storage (NFS, CIFS, iSCSI/Block).Automation technologies and scripting (Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Bash, Perl, Python, etc.).User identity, access, authorization (Active Directory, LDAP, NIS).Backup technologies and process (Veritas, Rubrik).
