Recommendations are a core part of how our buyers navigate eBay’s vast and varied inventory. Our team develops state-of-the-art recommendations systems, including deep learning based retrieval systems for personalized recommendations, machine learned ranking models, as well as advanced MLOps in a high volume traffic industrial e-commerce setting.We are building out a new team to explore a new generation of recommender systems powered by Large Language Models and other emerging paradigms in AI. We are looking for a Lead ML Engineer who can drive state of the art ML engineering following an agile startup model. The candidate will report directly to the Engineering Lead.This is an opportunity to:Define and drive state of art ML engineering for the next generation of recommender systems based on the latest large language models.Lead a group of talented engineers to build data pipelines needed to support user input, recall and ranking, model training and inference, working with architects and other engineering peers.Develop ML infrastructure andDeploy big data technology and large scale data pipelines to create magical AI applications and user experiencesWork with unique and large data sets of unstructured multimodal data representing eBay's vast and varied inventory, and millions of usersHave real impact on how shoppers interact with one of the world's largest ecommerce marketplaces, find what they love everydayQualificationsMS in Computer Science or related area with 6 years of relevant work experience (or BS/BA with 8 years) in ML or Data EngineeringExperience leading an engineering team, preferably in a nimble ML/AI technology startup environmentExperience with using cloud services, big data pipelines and databasesExperience with training and inference with deep learning and other ML models and emerging LLM toolkits such as LangChainExperience in production engineering practices and software development in an OO language (Scala, Java, etc.) and high volume traffic webapp development in an industrial settingA high bar for engineering excellence in terms of practices and processestech.ebayinc.comBuilding a Deep Learning Based Retrieval System for Personalized RecommendationsA step-by-step guide on how to build a state-of-the-art recommender system in an industrial setting.Benefits are an essential part of your total compensation for the work you do every day.
