Tax ManagerStatus: Exempt (Salaried) Department: Finance/AccountingPosition SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced European Tax Manager with expertise in both direct and indirect taxation to join our organization. As the European Tax Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect tax compliance and strategy across our operations in multiple European countries. Your primary focus will be on value-added tax (VAT), goods and services tax (GST), as well as coordinating corporate income tax returns and statutory filings with local accounting firms. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of European tax laws, strong analytical abilities, and a proven track record in managing complex indirect tax issues.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesIndirect Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with European indirect tax regulations, including VAT, GST, and other applicable taxes. Review and submit accurate and timely VAT returns, Intrastat and EC Sales Lists, and other indirect tax filings across multiple European jurisdictions. Stay up-to-date with changes in tax laws and regulations and ensure timely implementation of necessary updates to tax practices.International Tax Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive direct and indirect tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position and mitigate tax risks. Identify potential tax planning opportunities, such as tax optimization structures.Direct Tax support: Work with local accounting firms in the Netherlands, France, Germany and Spain to make sure local tax returns are prepared on time and correctly. Work with the Global tax team to prepare the US GAAP tax provision and support with U.S. foreign reporting (Forms 5471 etc.) Indirect Tax Audits and Disputes: Manage indirect tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities across European countries. Prepare and review documentation, communicate with auditors, and resolve any indirect tax-related disputes. Represent the company in interactions with tax authorities, ensuring compliance with audit requests and deadlines.Compliance Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and maintain systems and controls to monitor and report on indirect tax compliance across European countries. Review and validate data to ensure accurate reporting of indirect taxes. Prepare and review indirect tax-related financial statements and reports, including tax provisions, reconciliations, and disclosures.Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain relationships with external tax advisors, consultants, and government agencies across European jurisdictions. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and operations teams, to address indirect tax-related concerns and provide guidance. Liaise with tax authorities and other external entities as necessary.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field. Extensive experience as a Tax Manager or similar role, focusing on European indirect tax compliance and strategy, with some experience in direct (income) tax.In-depth knowledge of European indirect tax laws, regulations, and practices, including VAT and GST.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex indirect tax regulations and apply them to business situations.Proficiency in using tax software, ERP systems, and other relevant tools for indirect tax compliance, planning, and reporting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders andPlug Power, Inc. is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
