Status: Exempt (Salaried)Department: Project controlsPosition SummaryPlug will become one of the major players in the European Green Hydrogen market, including as owner and operator of green hydrogen production plants. Its flagship Chymia project in the Port of Antwerp will feature up to 35 tons per day of green hydrogen production including Europe’s first green hydrogen liquefier. In addition, Plug has unveiled plans to develop several projects in Finland with a total installed electrolyzer capacity of 2.2 GigaWatt, producing green hydrogen, green ammonia and green DRI (Direct Reduction Iron). These plants will deploy Plug’s own electrolyzer and hydrogen liquefaction technologies as well as partner technologies. The senior Estimator is part of the Project Controls group supporting concept and business development, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of green hydrogen plant projects, playing an integral role in ensuring the success of these projects. You will be responsible for directing and leading estimating efforts (internal and external), developing Estimating databases, models, tools for different types of estimates and major point of contact for all estimating matters.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduce capital estimates that meet industry standard estimate classifications and guidelines. Develop standard structures for estimating all types of facilities enabling easy communication and transfer of estimates to others in close cooperation with project controls. Develop methods for conceptual estimates. Establish cost drivers/factors/dependencies/metrics for making estimates and validating estimates made by others. Develop methods for detailed estimates. Develop tools for estimating. Collect validate and store historical data to build a historical database. Assist in converting the estimates into budgets (recasting) Validate input for estimates like MTO’s. Check, challenge and approve proposals, vendor quotes, third party estimates for Plug colleagues and third parties. Do probability analysis and calculate contingencies (technical, event, schedule). Make cashflow projections in the estimating phase. Assist in risk analysis and calculate related impacts of those risks. Support projects, proposals, and own investments in making optimum choices related to costs. Assist project management/controls with the pricing of extra's. Take part in value management exercises, estimating alternatives. Do analysis of commercial estimating tools. Be the center of excellence for estimating for EMEA. Align estimating matters. Take part in value management exercises. Train and coach team members (in Europe and India) in performing and reviewing estimates. Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in engineering or technical business administration. Minimum 10 years estimating experience preferably in the process / Energy / life science industries. Experience with projects in excess of EUR 500 million. Knowledge of the H2 industry is an advantage. Qualifications from DACE or AACE would be an asset. Proven experience in conceptual estimating. Proven experience in detail estimating. Able to tailor estimating methods, tools, software to the H2 business specifics. Strong knowledge of the industrial construction process and familiarity with labor, material, equipment, and subcontract pricing conventions. Able to effectively communicate with all groups in the estimating process. Have a helicopter view, but also able to use large quantities of details and structure them. Excellent team player that is also an independent thinker able to convince others. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Able to plan estimates with all parties involved and deliver them in in a timely way. Able to express to external software suppliers the requirements when they are used to develop solutions and test those solutions. Able to make reasonable assumptions around quantities and sizing based on previous experience. Knowledge of software Like Cleopatra, Kbase @RISK would be an advantage. Able to train others in basic estimating skills techniques and support them with their activities.
