Director of Design Engineering Status: Exempt (salaried) Department: 292 – Mechanical DesignPosition SummaryThe Director of Design Engineering is responsible for providing technical and organizational leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of both mechanical and electrical Design Engineers and Designers. The team lead by the Director of Engineering Design designs and creates new top-level products, functional sub-systems, and custom components for all Plug fuel-cell products. The ideal candidate for this role must have a firm technical grasp on fuel-cell, engine, or power-system design and their technical requirements. Must possess demonstrated leadership capability to drive staff member career development and the completion of strategic projects on time. This position requires strength in the areas of Design for Excellence methodology, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), drawing standards, geometric tolerancing (GD&T), manufacturing processes, machine building, and project management. The ideal candidate should be creative, self-motivated, able to multitask, and be willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization. This position is on-site and reports to the Fuel Cell Systems group leader.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Design Engineering will be responsible for the following activities including but not limited to:Develop and implement design strategies, methodologies, and best practices to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of our design processesCapability to lead a large Design Team by providing hands-on technical guidance while establishing goals and prioritiesEnsures all projects, initiatives, and procedures are in line with Plug's established policies, objectives, and business planLead all product design projects and alpha prototyping efforts for Engineering orgSchedule, lead and document all new-product design reviewsMaintain expert level technical knowledge of Plug products and solutionsSupport programs associated with product reliability, ensuring timeliness of solutionsInterface with key business partners for new and existing Plug products, including but not limited to NPI, Purchasing, Quality, and Field Service organizationsEstablish product and technology roadmaps for team, including prioritiesTeach and mentor team members on standards, methods, and best practicesCollaborate with Manager of Engineering Apps to ensure optimal toolsetAlways represent Plug in a professional mannerPerform all other duties as assignedRequirementsBS in mechanical engineering or other relevant engineering field of study10+ years of related work history; experience within a technology product manufacturing environment3+ years of management experience in a technical or industrial environmentHighly experienced with 3D CAD software; PTC Creo Parametric strongly preferredThorough understanding of change control and configuration management using PLM system software, such as PTC WindchillStrong managerial and interpersonal skillsComputer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and TeamsProven ability to successfully develop technical solutions in a variety of environments while considering a multitude of constraintsDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levelsDemonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detailDemonstrated experience in developing complex mechanical designs, from concept to production, in a variety of industriesAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyExperience with regulatory requirements and standards such as ISO & CEKnowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical design.Uncompromising dedication to qualityExceptional task-oriented follow-throughMust be driven and self-motivated.Pay Rate:$106,849.00 - $170,958.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
