Mechanical EngineerStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: Stationary Engineering (Based in Latham, NY – Reporting to Spokane, WA)Position SummaryThe Mechanical Engineer is responsible for stationary power product development, testing and support. This includes design, prototype development, system testing, product release and manufacturing support. The Mechanical Engineer will work with manufacturing to optimize and improve designs and use engineering skills to specify and select components. This role requires close interaction with the other engineering team members to ensure efforts are coordinated. The ideal engineering candidate should be highly motivated to contribute and adapt.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork to create new system designs and/or modify existing system designs with a focus upon lower cost, improved manufacturability, increased product performance, and higher overall product quality.Use PTC Creo to create accurate, complete and concise engineering documentation including large system assembly models and detailed part drawings utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles.Work with systems, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams to define integration requirements for a wide variety of fuel cell system components.Specify, analyze and design mechanical components and sub-systems with a focus on simplicity and manufacturability.Test and troubleshoot fuel cell power systems and associated balance of plant components.Write detailed component specifications.Coordinate and lead design changes with multidisciplinary engineering teams through the enterprise change process.Communicate proactively with internal project team members and other departments to clarify project expectations and meet commitments.Assemble, test, and troubleshoot subsystems and products.Education and Experience BS degree in mechanical engineering or similar degree5-10 years of mechanical engineering experienceFamiliarity with piping systems, fittings, valves, and transducersKnowledge of solid modeling with a sound understanding of good modeling practice and application (CREO and Windchill experience is a plus)Hands on experience and expertise in startup and troubleshooting mechanical systems combined with strong problem-solving abilityBasic understanding of electrical power schematics and one-linesAbility to travel independently to assist with field and operation support of the businessAbility to work in construction site environment and direct craftspeopleUncompromising dedication to quality with a strong attention to detailAbility to self-manage workload and complete assignments timelyStrong verbal and written communication skills and comfortable communicating with diverse audiences and stakeholdersExperience in any of the following spheres of activity is preferred and highly valued: fuel cells, heat exchangers, sheet metal design and fabrication, thermal management/thermodynamicsExempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.
