Senior Mechanical Engineer, Stack EngineeringStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: Stack EngineeringPosition SummaryAs part of the Stack Engineering team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer position will play a key role in the design and development of Plug Power fuel cell stacks for a variety of product configurations. This will include the design, development, and validation of the fuel cell stack assemblies, components, and required technologies in which you will own the full product lifecycle process from concept to production release for each application. This candidate must be able to effectively communicate within the cross-functional team during integration of the stack into the fuel cell system. The candidate should be creative, self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple project assignments within a fast-paced Engineering organization.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesIdentify and validate applicable technologies for new fuel cell stack designsManage required engineering activities for fuel stacks from concept through detailed design, prototyping, and production releaseCreate and manage required CAD models, drawings, and assembliesDevelop and apply required Engineering modeling tools (FEA, CFD) for evaluation and finalization of design conceptsApply tolerance analyses and associated GD&T as required to ensure proper component fit and functionalityWork with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure low cost, manufacturable, high quality components at required production volumesAddress and resolve design issues as part of prototype and production stack buildsLead required design changes as part of the change control processConduct Design Failure Mode and Effect (DFMEA) AnalysesConduct design reviews and develop required design documentationDevelop and lead initiatives for new applications, cost reduction, performance & durability improvementsConduct engineering studies & investigations; prepare & present results to key stakeholdersDevelop detailed design strategies & technical program plans (full stack & associated components) to meet system level requirementsWork closely with Manufacturing to identify required manufacturing equipment along with development of related SOPsRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactionsMentor other team members as requiredPerform all other duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceMinimum BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)7+ years of increasing responsibility designing, validating, and releasing new products (both component & assembly level) from concept to production releaseStrong background in CAD modeling, drawings, and Bill of Materials (both component and assembly level). Creo / Windchill experience preferred. Experience with hands on prototype builds for concept prove out & validationExperience with FEA and/or CFD analysis toolsExperience with the creation and application of FMEAsExperience with creation and application of tolerance analyses and associated GD&T techniquesExperience with Engineering Change Management processes (ECR, ECN) preferredExperience with statistical/process capability, DFM, and DFA techniques preferredExperience with high volume manufacturing and cost reduction background preferredExperience with rapid prototyping/3D printing preferredExperience with supplier qualification, first article inspection, supplier deviation requests preferredExperience with part measurement & characterization methods (Instron, optical, laser, touch probe) preferredExperience with 8D/RCA structured problem solving processes preferredExperience in various manufacturing processes (metal forming & welding, coatings, machining, injection molding, etc.) is preferredExperience with nonlinear FEA of elastomers (stress, strain, contact pressure) preferredExperience with injection molded part design (injection points, venting, mold flow analysis) and related qualification for production parts preferredExperience in fuel cell stack design or fuel cell systems is preferredDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levelsAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyDemonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detailSuperior communication skillsExcellent follow-throughMust be driven and self-motivatedMust possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work qualityAbility to travel for business need up to 10% of the timeAbility to work out of the Latham, NY officePay Rate:$75,240.00 - $112,860.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
