Sr. Mechanical Designer Status: Exempt (salaried)Department: Mechanical Engineering Position Summary The Sr. Mechanical Designer will support the design and development of components and system packaging to meet functional, certification and cost requirements.  This position requires strength in the areas of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), hands-on testing and team-work. The Sr. Designer role requires close interaction with the other engineering team members ensuring efforts are efficiently coordinated. The role also requires collaboration with the supply chain, quality, manufacturing and service teams to ensure designs meet cross-functional requirements. The ideal candidate should be creative, self-motivated, able to handle multiple project assignments and willing to learn and adapt within a fast-paced engineering organization. Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain knowledge regarding Plug Power technology including current design specifications and constraintsWork to create new system designs and/or modify existing system designs with a focus upon lower cost, improved manufacturability, increased product performance, and higher overall product qualityWork with mechanical, systems, chemical and electrical engineering teams to define integration requirements for a wide variety of fuel cell system componentsUse Autodesk Inventor to create accurate, complete and concise engineering documentation from large system assembly models and detailed part drawingsCoordinate and lead design changes with multidisciplinary engineering teamsTroubleshoot design failures and identify solutions to improve product designMentor team members on design work and act as senior technical resource for guidanceRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfactionPerform all other duties as assigned and required within roleEducation and ExperienceAssociates degree in engineering or other relevant technical field of studySeven (7) + years of related work history preferably within a technology product manufacturing environmentHighly experienced with 3D CAD software; Autodesk Inventor strongly preferredProficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook Excellent verbal and written communication skillsTeamwork oriented and focusedAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders at all levelsDemonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail Exceptional task-oriented follow-through Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work qualityMust be driven and self-motivated
