As an Engineering Technician III at our Durham, North Carolina facility, you will be using your skills to aid in the testing and validation of electromechanical systems for a variety of space applications. Activities include configuring test setups, performing a variety of functional tests, and documenting test results. This position requires a candidate with an aptitude for both electrical and mechanical skills. The candidate will also be responsible for setting up and controlling thermal and thermal vacuum chambers for environmental tests. Additional activities include troubleshooting, fixture assembly, maintaining test equipment, and data processing. You'll ensure our systems and components meet established specifications.Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin and Durham, North Carolina, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Learn more about Sierra Space.Primary Responsibilities:  Setup and execute tests as defined from released test procedures. Configure and utilizes benchtop and special test equipment. Includes but is not limited to oscilloscopes, DMM’s, power supplies, load cells, thermocouples, displacement sensors. Record test data. Generate data plot and tables using defined templates in tools such as Excel. Assemble and validate test fixture assemblies. Configure electrical test setups based on schematics and interface diagrams.Configure and operate thermal and thermal vacuum chambers.  Perform automated tests using special test equipment. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical test setups. Use standard assembly tools and materials. Adhere to strict quality standards for all test and manufacturing activities.  Must-haves:Associate's degree in a related field of study and at least 4 years of relevant experienceA higher level degree may substitute for experienceRelated experience may be considered in lieu of required educationAbility to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics and manualsAbility to work with standard laboratory test equipment, other measurement equipment, hand tools, and power toolsPreferred:Previous experience and/or certifications within the aerospace and defense industry.Previous experience in a manufacturing and test environment.Motion control skills and/or experience. Stepper or servo drivers.  Experience assembling, testing, & troubleshooting electromechanical devices such as motors and actuators. Experience working in an electrostatic discharge (ESD) and contamination/FOD sensitive environment.Data Acquisition knowledge and/or experience.Ability to process data in Excel.
