The Field Applications Engineering (FAE) team is an emerging group within OMCS responsible for supporting pre-sale/post-sale and application development activities with IP/Optical Network Equipment Manufacturers and component customers. This is a high visibility position to lead a team that is key to the success of a strategic and growing part of Infinera’s business.The FAE team is the technical resource supporting Infinera’s OMCS business development activities focused on creating demand with the Network Equipment Manufacturers (NEM), transceiver module and software providers globally. FAEs support Design-In and Design-Win objectives. The FAE team is expected to work closely with cross functional teams such as PLM, R&D, Service, marketing, and sales to develop account plans and technical presentations, respond to technical inquiries and drive qualification activities with customers, and guide Infinera PLM and engineering for roadmap and feature development.The Director of Field Applications Engineering must have a track record of successful technical management experience and a background in optical communications, coherent transmission, and data center networking. This is a working manager position. The successful candidate will function as an engineer while growing/scaling the team.The Director of Field Applications Engineering will be responsible for the following activities:LeadershipHire, develop, lead, and enable FAE team for success in driving technical and business outcomesPrioritize activities with sales leadership, engineering, and product line for highest returnIdentify applications for existing Infinera products and drive aligned activities to win new business, including coherent pluggable technology, subsystem components such as DSP, PMD components, and optical front end for use in DCI, metro, long haul, and inside Data CenterHelp develop influential relationships with technical leaders in target NEMs, Hyperscalers, and strategic service providers globallyHelp Define success criteria in technical engagement strategies including RFQ/RFI, Demos, qualification strategies, and align expectations with FAE team, PLM, internal and customer engineeringFoster ecosystem of cooperation between OEMs, end customers, and InfineraBe an influential voice from field team used to drive feature roadmap and enhancements.Help drive support process definition around ASIC/DSP and other componentIndustry level talks/forums/MSA participation as neededHelp refine test processes for firmware and software at scalePre-SaleBuild strong relationships with target NEM customers/ partners through presentations, Q/A, seminars, network analysis with XR in mind and frequent customer visits.Organize demos, customer training and lab integration efforts.Assess competitive threats and position INFN products to win, while repositioning against competitor products.Lead technical response for RFPs, RFIs and Technical surveysPost-SaleProvide on-going technical support to NEMs as they integrate INFN Optical Modules into their system.Provide technical collateral to customers supporting Design-In activities.Enable NEM feedback to PLM and R&D on current and future product requirements.QualificationsStrong background in Data, Optical and/or Radio networking (Switch/Router, DWDM/ROADM, RAN and other CSP, ICP and MSO architectures)Understanding of common router/switch O/S, CMIS, and CLIsUnderstanding of Data Center technology and Intra-DC and Inter-DC interconnect technologyBSEE/MSEE degree in Telecommunication, Computer Science or EngineeringMinimum 5-year work experience in supporting sales of optical modules, DSPs or other optical componentsExcellent leadership, organizational, inter-personal and communication skillsSelf StarterTravel to key customers or OEMs as needed#LI-JP1Infinera is an equal opportunity employer.
