Search JobsJob DescriptionWhy will you enjoy this new opportunity?The Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) Management Lifecycle engineering group is looking for an Engineering Manager with production and/or development Kubernetes experience. This is an opportunity to work on a VMware product playing a critical role helping accelerate customer innovation at the intersection of vSphere in Enterprise data centers and modern applications and management.In this role, you will support a delivery team responsible for developing, maintaining, and upgrading critical Kubernetes services and components to be used in some of the largest Kubernetes deployments in the world. Your team will ensure management software and components we ship in releases are up to date, reliable, supportable, and as diagnosable as possible. Your team will collaborate and coordinate across product development teams and OSS software projects.Lifecycle Management for TKG bridges Kubernetes and vSphere infrastructure and is critical to enabling Kubernetes adoption by Enterprise customers. You will use your skills and real-world experience among operating and/or developing cloud native technologies to collaborate with research and development peers to refine and execute plans to exceed Enterprise customer expectations.What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? Within 30 days of joining, you will ramp up on the product architecture and designs of your product components and will have successfully deployed TKG from customer documentation.Within 60 days, you will understand the team and product roadmaps and development processes and have formed relationships with partners and stakeholder peers.Within 90 days, you will be responsible for your development processes and accountable to plans and delivery. Your team backlog will be curated and ready able to facilitate tradeoff discussions.Within 180 days, you will have facilitated your delivery teams successfully developing management lifecycle capabilities in both feature and patch releases of TKG defined by key priorities from the product management team. Individual team member development plans supporting career growth and product goals will be refined through insight from working relationships and oversight of execution.Within 360 days, you will be known as the go-to leader across Tanzu and completely responsible for your functional area. Processes are well established and delivery teams are known to be reliable and consistently executing and are ready for direct manager support.What type of work will you be doing? Accountable for facilitating development, contribution, maintenance, and support of Cluster API and Observability and Diagnostics components in TKGTranslate organizational strategy and priorities into strategic work plans and backlogs, and delegate assignmentsEnsure team morale is closely watched and able to support shifts and changes in leadership, organization, and strategyEstablish and connect members to short-term and long-term business goals through career growth plans, mentorships, and individual goalsWhat is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like? The hiring manager for this role is Clint Kitson, Director Engineering, and a founder of TKG. Clint has been at VMware for 6 years and in the Cloud Native ecosystem for 10 years in various roles supporting product and open source software engineers. The team is highly collaborative and well-versed in the skills necessary to be successful in open source communities.Where is this role located? This role is open to fully remote and can be done anywhere in the United Kingdom or Ireland.
