This engineer will play a key role in manufacturing sustainment and new product introduction of world-class Illumina DNA sequencing instruments.In this role you will identify, prioritize, and lead re-design projects for products on market, and collaborate with the development team to influence module designs for new product introduction. You will collaborate deeply with development and operations counterparts in Hayward, Foster City, San Diego, and Singapore, as well as manage external suppliers, ensuring technical readiness for production.Responsibilities: Lead project teams for on-market product development (sustainment design) and new product introduction activitiesOwn sustainment and/or NPI activities of a small subsystem or larger subsystem, with guidance from senior engineersPerform failure analysis for complex electro-mechanical assemblies, identifying root cause and corrective actionDesign manufacturing fixtures using SolidworksCreate detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Materials, test reports, assembly procedures, and design validation plansRepresent Lifecycle Management in project teams to release quality products into manufacturing and incorporate new designs into life sciences instrumentsCoordinate ECO (Engineering Change Order) implementation activities such as material disposition, update work instructions and test requirementsTravel to suppliers (local and abroad) as neededRequirements: Strong CAD skills – 3D model design and 2D drawings (Solidworks preferred)Experience using GD&T and performing tolerance analysisFamiliarity with machine shop tools and 3D printing for prototypingExceptional communication and documentation skillsThrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environmentDesire to continuously improve oneself and not happy with status quoExperience programming in Matlab, Python, or other programming language is a plusExperience with FDA regulated medical device product development is a plusEducational Requirements: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experienceSolid grasp of engineering fundamentals (mechanics of materials, motion control systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, etc.)The estimated base salary range for the Mechanical Engineer 2 (Sustainment & NPI) role based in the United States of America is: $99,000 - $148,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
