Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.Illumina's San Diego Platform team is seeking a collaborative and talented Sr Staff, Firmware engineer to assist in executing Illumina's mission...unlocking the power of the genome!   In this role, you will:Play a critical role in helping launch new world-class DNA sequencing instruments into production...Collaborate deeply with the product development firmware team throughout the new product development cycle from investigation to first customer ship (FCS)...Identify, analyze, and resolve firmware issues encountered in manufacturing by various LCM subsystem teams during the development phase and in sustaining...Partner with the LCM Software team and vendors to deploy updated firmware and provide ongoing support...Create a firmware release strategy and methodology for manufacturing during development and sustaining...Responsibilities: Lead HW/FW/SW interface design for test systems. Review FW/HW designs and implementations to ensure smooth rollout and that debug capabilities are in placeCreate and execute SW/FW test protocol and test scripts that can be reused and leveraged forwardImplement SW for test systems (Subsystem level and system level) via the SW development life cycle. Work with SW/LCM/R&D departments to ensure FW and SW test coverage are adequate with minimum test escapePerform diagnostics and troubleshooting of SW/FW/HW test system and recommend product design improvements as neededWork with SW/R&D department to develop SW/FW test system to ensure product quality and improve manufacturing efficiencies, including assembly and quality testing at vendor sites worldwideHelp define what manufacturing test process is needed based on market requirements and product definitionDevelop manufacturing test requirement specification. Identify current and future test coverage required for manufacturing test systemLaunch SW test system into Illumina production or vendor facilities as neededTrain sustaining staff to install, maintain and upgrade test systemProvide guidance to outsourced test solutions to ensure alignment of test system with product design intent, alignment of test development methodology with in-house product architecture and robust performance of outsourced test systemSome travel is required (up to 20%)Requirements:Embedded system fundamentals include comprehension of C/C++ source code; understanding of real time operating systems; ability to read complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; ability to use test and measurement equipmentAbility to comprehend, develop and maintain test scripts in various environments such as Windows cmd, .NET, TCL, Matlab, VisualBasic, Python, etcFamiliarity with software version control systems such as subversion, git, or Microsoft TFSFamiliarity with defect/task management systems such as bugzilla, JIRA, or Microsoft TFSKnowledge of operating systems and driver development on RTOS and LinuxAbility to produce clear test cases and defect reports including accurate descriptions of test procedures, expected results, actual results and conclusionsPossess strong engineering fundamentals with relevant experience in system/subsystem design and characterization, manufacturing SW test developmentGood interdepartmental communication skill, self-motivated and proactiveStrong problem solving, reasoning skill, attention to detail is requiredComfortable working in large start-up environment with lots of ambiguityMust be able to work independently and as a team playerListed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position.  Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.The estimated base salary range for the Sr Staff, Firmware Engineer role based in the United States of America is: $136,100 - $204,100. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
