We believe that innovative ideas can originate from any level within the organization, and we recognize that the next ground-breaking idea could come from you! The Opportunity At Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento), a rapidly growing e-commerce company, we are currently searching for a highly skilled and experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with prior software development/SRE experience to join our Customer Engineering team. Your main focus will be solving and resolving database application queries and configuration issues. As a DBA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance, stability, and reliability of our database systems. Proficiency in MariaDB/Galera DB Configurations and MySQL is highly desirable, and having experience with Magento, will earn bonus points. What you'll Do Seek and resolve database application queries and configuration issues to ensure efficient and reliable database operations.Collaborate with multi-functional teams to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of database infrastructure, enabling flawless growth of our e-commerce sites.Perform database administration tasks, including but not limited to suggesting adjustments to the database schema, query optimization, index creation, and management of database interactions with other services.Analyze query performance using various tools and techniques, identifying and optimizing slow queries to improve overall system efficiency.Identify and address inefficiencies in index usage, examining index statistics, query execution plans, and eliminating unused or redundant indexes.Optimize queries by modifying query structures, rewriting queries, or using alternative SQL constructs to enhance query performance.Configure and apply query caching mechanisms to improve performance by storing frequently performed query results in memory.Utilize database tuning tools to identify performance bottlenecks and proactively optimize database performance.Collaborate closely with developers to ensure efficient database usage and prevent code changes from adversely affecting database performance.Deep debugging of Adobe Commerce (Magento) projects.Review code and provide technical mentorship to team members.Work on reliability and performance aspects of the database infrastructure, making software configuration and tuning recommendations for optimal performance.Drive resolution automatisation initiatives to mitigate recurrent issues, implementing self-healing and automated processes to improve system stability.Participate in a shared on-call schedule (follow-the-sun model) handled across DBA and SRE/Engineering teams.Improve observability of software by implementing effective monitoring, tracing, and logging solutions.Demonstrate good communication skills in interactions with internal and external developers, the community, and merchants. What you need to succeed Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.2+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on fixing and resolving database application queries and configuration issues.Prior experience with MariaDB/Galera DB Configurations and MySQL is highly desired.Experience with Magento or other e-commerce platforms would be preferable.Experience with PHP7, 8 or similar technology (including debugging and profiling), Object-oriented programming and Design Patterns will be a huge plus.Demonstrable experience in Software Developer or SRE roles, handling high transactional environments with critical 24x7 uptime requirements.Extensive experience in database administration, including schema adjustments, query optimization, index management, and database performance tuning.Solid understanding and proficiency in transactional NoSQL databases such as ElasticSearch and Redis.Experience working with hyper-scale cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl, or similar.Experience with database migrations into cloud-native databases (preferably AWS Aurora).Familiarity with securing, monitoring, capacity planning, disaster recovery, backup, and recovery for distributed database systems.Confirmed expertise in implementing and utilizing monitoring, logging, and alerting systems.Intellectual curiosity and a continuous learning demeanor to stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.Superb communication, interpersonal, and partnership skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and customers.Strong desire to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.Willingness to participate in an on-call pager rotation. At Adobe, you will be immersed in an exceptional work environment that is recognized around the world.
