We want someone who can deeply understand the fundamentals of our sophisticated business, challenge the status quo and be a catalyst for change. This role will work in close partnership with our Managing Director and Director of Finance and be part of the ANZ management team, shaping the next chapter of eBay’s story in Australia and New Zealand.The teamThe Director of Focus Categories oversees strategic categories and category leaders within the ANZ business, across the Automotive Parts & Accessories, Sneakers, Pre-Loved Fashion businesses, among others. This leader will sit on the region’s management team while also connecting with counterparts and partners across eBay’s regional businesses.Direct ReportsThis position currently has management responsibility for leaders of strategic categories and their directs, including supply, demand, experience, and community managers. Additionally, the position heavily demonstrates resources from across the Marketing, Comms, Strategy, Operations, Legal, Finance and Analytics groups.Key Business RelationshipsManaging Director, ANZFinance Director, ANZChief Marketing Officer, ANZCategory leads, ANZDirector of Managed Marketplace, ANZCounterparts in other geographies, particularly Switzerland, France, Italy and CanadaKey ResponsibilitiesPartner with the ANZ Management Team to identify long-term strategic opportunities and creative solutions to tough business challenges in key categories.Guide direct team members leading multiple product categories in:Analysing market and consumer trends.Finding similarities and differences across categories and countries to develop three-year regional strategies, to socialise these globally, and to execute and pivot to drive meaningful contributions to the business in ANZ and globally.Defining strategy-aligned goals and guiding teams toward achieving them.Support the team in synthesizing internal and external data, customer insights and competitor intelligence to generate insights that inform and support focus category strategies.Lead internal processes to generate and prioritise category- and business-wide innovations, drive alignment and buy-in from leaders, and embed critical thinking across the organisation.Build models to size growth opportunities and support investment cases.Develop team members’ abilities to communicate strategic recommendations to senior executives and create opportunities for them to do so.Experience RequirementsTo be successful in this role, a candidate will have a demonstrated history of these skills/expertise:E-commerce knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of the e-commerce landscape, including knowledge of industry trends, standard processes, and emerging technologies as they apply to 1P and marketplace businesses.Strategic planning: Ability to lead a team in developing and implementing long-term strategic plans for category growth and expansion, including market analysis, competitive positioning, marketplace pricing strategies, and promotional activities.Category management: Proven experience in managing and optimising product categories within an e-commerce environment. This includes assortment planning, inventory management, pricing, and product lifecycle management.Data analysis: Strong analytical skills to guide a team in collecting, interpreting, and using data to make informed decisions. Proficiency in using analytics tools and research to develop goals and to track and measure key performance indicators against them.Skilled communication: An ability to communicate convincingly upward, downward, or laterally, inspiring support for your teams’ visions, strategies, and tactics.Cross-functional collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively across functions and regions and to coach a team in doing the same. Effective communication and partner management skills.Vendor management: Experience in managing relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and partners. Able to negotiate and to coach team members in leading win-win negotiations.Product/user experience: Understanding of user experience principles and ability to identify experience gaps and partner with Product/Engineering partners to develop a roadmap to improve them.Marketing: Knowledge of digital marketing strategies and an ability to guide teams in working cross-functionally to develop and implement category plans across earned, owned, and paid channels.Team leadership: Experience in leading and managing a team of e-commerce professionals working across different domains, in this case across categories with different supply chains and buyer segments. Strong leadership skills and an ability to receive and give guidance and mentorship.Continuous learning: Demonstrated commitment to staying up to date on market and industry trends across categories under management.
