Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Privacy Specialist (Contract), reporting to the Lead Privacy Program Manager, to work closely with our legal team to manage legal requests and inquiries surrounding Wikimedia Foundation’s privacy policies and procedures. As a privacy specialist, you will be responsible for analyzing and responding to these requests. You’ll bring your passion for community experience and operations together to support case management of data rights requests and execute related scalable support experiences. You will coordinate with Foundation attorneys and with members of the volunteer editor communities to solve legal issues. As part of your work, you will communicate with various outside parties including attorneys, volunteers, and members of the public. Must be willing to work with a team primarily based in the US Pacific Standard time zone (PST / UTC-8).
You are responsible for:
Analyzing and responding to legal requests and demands received by the Wikimedia Foundation.
Tracking and prioritizing incoming requests and escalating relevant cases to Wikimedia Foundation attorneys.
Thinking holistically about operations workflows and identifying areas for improvement.
Providing support for designing and implementing potential improvements.
Learning new workflows to back up the work of other legal support staff or counsel on other privacy related projects, as requested.
Skills and Experience:
2+ years experience in data privacy, operations, support or paralegal role
Experience acting independently across competing priorities and exercising judgment
High quality communication and drafting skills
Ability to adapt and learn new technologies
Critical attention to detail, organized
Additionally, we’d love it if you have:
Experience solving privacy problems within an operations environment
Knowledge of, or experience with, Zendesk
Experience with project management software such as Asana
Experience and comfort with working in a remote environment

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based in more than 50 countries. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated hourly pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$34 per hour to US$52 per hour with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
