Retail disruption is one of the largest opportunities in the startup space today. Livestream shopping is taking off around the world – a $300B GMV market in China that’s grown 100% YoY. Whatnot is bringing it to the world through a community-first approach, starting in the U.S. where retail is a $5T market opportunity!
💻 Role
User research is different at Whatnot; it is a cultural principle to talk to our users and an integral part of everyone’s role. Your goal will be to help facilitate this user-first culture while leading focused deep dives to gain an intimate understanding of strategic problems and opportunities. You will work closely with Whatnot’s leadership and core product teams to:
Collaboratively identify high-impact questions to shed light on key product or business problems / opportunities.
Plan and lead targeted research studies with a strong command of qualitative methods including user interviewing and sophisticated survey methodology
Clearly communicate research insights for cross functional teams to translate research findings to product and business impact
Facilitate monthly research to help core product teams talk to users directly and help improve the ease of bringing user feedback into the product development process.

As our first User Researcher you should have 5+ years work and 3+ years user research experience, plus:
Proven years of qualitative research experience; it can either be industry-only, or a combination of proven experience and academic research
Ability to create clear and concise artifacts with user research insights, competitive analysis, and product recommendations
Experience working closely with cross-functional partners and helping them deliver impact
Comfort working exceptionally fast and do whatever it takes to drive impact in an ambiguous work environment
Ability to leverage SQL to target users for targeted interview/survey reachout
Experience setting up tools to facilitate socializing cross-functional learnings.
Able to ruthlessly prioritize the most impactful work
💰Compensation
For US-based applicants: $175,000 - $190,000 /year + benefits + stock options
The salary range may be inclusive of several levels that would be applicable to the position. Final salary will be based on a number of factors including, level, relevant prior experience, skills and expertise. This range is only inclusive of base salary, not benefits (more details below) or equity in the form of stock options.
