Smartsheet is looking for a full time Principal Software Engineer - Android to join our Mobile Development Team. In this role, you will work with our Engineering and Product teams to provide next generation mobile experiences that empower our customers to improve how they work. You will have the opportunity to be an engineering leader and contributor on a process-light, high-collaboration team, and positively enhance several product areas, using modern mobile technologies.
As a principal engineer, you will be responsible for defining architectural direction, pioneering rich user experiences and driving features across multiple teams.
You will report directly to the Director of Engineering. While this position is based at our headquarters in Bellevue, WA, you will also have the option to work remotely from any Smartsheet registered location within the United States.

You Will:
Lead and grow mobile engineers of all levels, pairing with and coaching team members, while driving high standards during design and code reviews
Design and develop all aspects of our mobile application, including reliability and performance optimizations in highly complex areas
Take strong ownership over end to end Android application design, development, test, and deployment
Drive troubleshooting and root cause analysis in identifying solutions for production issues
Support cross-platform development teams (Android, iOS, NDK, KMM, etc.)
You Have:
8+ years of professional development experience
Expertise, both depth and breadth, in Android, Kotlin, and Java
Customer-focused mentality when decomposing large or complex projects into deliverable milestones
Pragmatic adaptation to legacy and modern Android architectures
Deep understanding of mobile application performance and practical approach to tradeoffs between space and time complexity and development effort.
Strong proficiency with concurrency in Java and Kotlin (e.g., handling multithreading, coroutines, etc.)
Experience using a well-established Dependency Injection framework in Android (Dagger, Hilt, Koin, etc.)
Understanding of infrastructure and ops, such as Gradle tooling, CI/CD, Build Scripts, etc.
Solid background in unit and integration testing (bonus points for experience with Mockito/MockK)
Understanding of REST API best practices and ability to review API designs with partner teams
Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer. California & New York: $199,800 to $275,400 | All other US States: $185,000 to $255,000.
