What We’re Looking For:
We are hiring for our Summer 2024 three-month Tech 2ternship program. Our 2ternship program has historically been a critical component of the company’s growth since its inception. Now reimagined, the 2ternship program will provide innovative, project-based opportunities for 2terns to help solve real business challenges. The program will culminate with all 2terns presenting a final project that can serve as part of their interview for a potential full-time position.
2nterns will support their designated business function, have unprecedented access to executive leaders to learn the business, career training and coaching, a designated mentor, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in 2U’s rich culture and employee-led Business Resource Networks.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Be part of a team who is responsible for improving and maintaining the Data Systems across the entire 2U business, particularly focusing on the Global Executive Education portfolio (Short Courses). These systems include, but are not limited to, Master Data Management, Data Virtualisation, Data Warehousing, and their respective data pipelines
Collaborate with Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, Data/Business Intelligence Analysts, DevOps Engineers, and other technical stakeholders to interpret business problems and identify solutions.
Communicate with business stakeholders
Analyse business requirements defined by business and/or technical stakeholders
Perform research to problem-solve and provide innovative solutions
Implement improvements and new features to the Data Systems
Resolve bugs and other maintenance issues related to the Data Systems
Assist the team leads with process improvements
Adhere to the internal Agile methodology
Upskill across the data technologies used at 2U, Cape Town
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
A recent graduate with a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, B.Eng, B.Tech (Eng or IT), B.Com IS, BBus Sci, Informatics, Information Systems Management or related fields
Knowledge of building data pipelines and shipping data using various ETL/ELT methods. Experience with Airflow, DBT, and SSIS would be beneficial
Exposure to or knowledge of Cloud Computing environments such as AWS. Experience with DMS, EC2, RDS, Redshift, and Snowflake would be beneficial
Knowledge of database design, database management, and data analysis. Experience would be beneficial, especially analysis skills
Knowledge of CI/CD tools and pipelines. Experience would be beneficial
Knowledge and experience with using relational database systems and SQL (PostgreSQL / MS SQL / MySQL)
Exposure to object-oriented programming languages and frameworks such as Python. Experience would be highly beneficial but not necessary
Knowledge of source code and version control systems (Git/Github, Gitlab)
Extra points if you share an active Github profile, or side project, which you’re proud of!
Experience with communication tools such as Slack would be beneficial
Clear, concise, and professional communication skills
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Values teamwork and collaboration. Essential for the Data Systems team!
Able to learn from both success and failure
A desire to upskill where needed

Must have less than one year of work experience.
Available to start 01 February 2024.
