We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist with a background in computational biology/bioinformatics, genomics, and NGS data analysis to accelerate development and characterization of our gene-editing platforms. Working on the Bioinformatics and Data Science team, you will play a crucial role in designing methods to support the development and usage of Metagenomi’s extensive genome-editing toolbox, including algorithm development, big-data analytics, and automated analysis pipeline design. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
How you’ll contribute:
In partnership with software engineers, lab scientists, and bioinformatics, you will contribute to the development of new capabilities for our AWS-based computational data analysis platform, including:
Develop algorithms and computational analysis workflows for novel gene-editing applications, such as guide selection, and determining editing outcomes
Assist discovery scientists with large-scale data analyses
Develop automated NGS analysis pipelines
Create tools and custom scripts to solve novel bioinformatic problems
Develop UI-based resources, command line tools, and containerized workflows for use by scientists and engineers company wide
Follow standardized coding and data management best practices throughout the company
Lead and collaborate with team members on code reviews.
What you bring:
M.S. or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, or related discipline with equivalent experience
At least two years experience in biotech or related field, preferably working on gene editing systems
Experience building front-end dashboards with Plotly Dash or other
Experience or strong interest in CRISPR and gene editing analysis tools
Expert in python programming and data analysis using pandas, scikit-learn, scipy
Experience interpreting and visualizing complex data using python based data visualization tools, such as seaborn, plotly, matplotlib
Extensive knowledge of common bioinformatics methods for NGS data analysis
Preferred additional qualifications:
Understanding of test-driven development and unit testing framework
Experience with developing Nextflow pipelines
Experience or strong interest in working with cloud computing systems, AWS
Experience with Docker and building containerized data workflows to handle large scale data streams
Familiarity with software development practices such as unit testing, code reviews, and version control
Experience working with Hamilton and Echo automation systems.
California Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This position is classified as an exempt salaried position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated base salary $115,000 - $130,000 . You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
