Build the first modern logistics platform
The opportunity:
Flexport is building the first modern logistics platform to make global trade easier for everyone. We are solving complex problems on a global scale, and disrupting a multi-trillion dollar industry that has remained stubbornly unchanged.
Ocean consolidation services (OCS) Engineering
Flexport’s mission is to make global trade easy for everyone. While developments in e-commerce and marketplace technology have enabled millions of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises to source goods and reach consumers globally, these businesses still struggle to participate in the highly manual and legacy world of global trade. Additionally, anyone who struggles to have enough volume to fill an entire container is treated like a second class citizen in global trade. Ocean consolidation services aims to build a platform that makes shipping any volume of Ocean cargo easy and seamless, so that it just works. We believe entrepreneurs and enterprises should be focused on growing their business instead of having to worry about the intimate mechanics of freight forwarding.
The Flexport OCS team is focused on taking care of manual consolidation pieces that exist in the shipping industry and level the playing field using tech instead of human touch, regardless of size of company, volume of freight or end destination. We want to make the experience so simple and easy that re-stocking an item for sale in a warehouse or a merchant location is a one click action, instead of the days of effort it takes today! Come distill the complicated world of Global Trade down to make it accessible to everyone.
We’re looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager who will help us realize the OCS vision. You’ll work alongside other self-starters interested in solving complex real-world problems and making global commerce more efficient. You will create solutions that ensure the best data quality and provide transparency to our customers to move their goods around the globe efficiently and on time.
You Will
Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to orchestrate the delivery of the company’s most critical initiatives
Drive cross-functional planning and development, ensuring that program tasks are complete on time, and managing resource, scope, and quality constraints
Clarify ambiguities in product requirements and drive the development of technical requirements
Identify and manage cross-team technology dependencies and align teams on roadmaps to ensure timely delivery of initiatives.
Provide transparency and communication to key stakeholders about program status, risks, and changes in plans
Proactively identify and remove blockers for the product and engineering teams, and manage stakeholder expectations.
Understand the technical architecture of the solution, analyze data to identify root causes of problems, and partner closely with engineers to resolve technical impediments
Facilitate discussions, decision making, and conflict resolution
Determine people, processes, and technical solutions to address issues
Establish effective working models and mechanisms for the larger organization, e.g., drive OP, establish a regular cadence for managing by objectives
You Should Have
Strong track record of delivering results into production for your customers
Ability to effectively manage ambiguity and competing priorities to help teams prioritize and focus
A data- and metrics-driven mindset
Strength in project/program planning, organization, and time management
Self-motivation and ability to work independently
Ability to roll up your sleeves and get things done; a strong owner where no task is beneath you
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong understanding of software product development and software architecture concepts
10+ years of technical program management or equivalent experiences, including management of large-scale programs
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or a related discipline
Bonus Points If You Have
Experience working in supply chains, global logistics, finance, or the measurement and optimization of software systems and development processes.
Experience driving machine learning-based solutions to tackle complex problems
Experiences demonstrating strong strategic thinking
Effectively mentored others in the past
