Tanzu Kubernetes Grid (TKG) provides Enterprise organizations with a consistent, upstream compatible, Kubernetes substrate across SDDC, Public Cloud, and Edge environments that is ready for end-user workloads and ecosystem integrations.VMware Tanzu team is looking for engineers to grow the Tanzu Edge team in Bangalore. Edge deployments of our Tanzu platform, with a focus on retail sites, Telco ,etc,.,. is becoming a major focus of both VMware and the Tanzu product.In this role, you will be working in the Tanzu Edge team and will be collaborating with the larger Tanzu team to build, maintain, and release features in our Kubernetes product for Edge deploymentsWhat is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for? You will be part of the existing Tanzu Edge team, you will put your technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills to work in launching this effort. You will set up the infrastructure and perform the hands-on software development work for delivering Tanzu Edge solutions to our customers.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months, you will work toward completing? You enjoy researching and developing cutting edge cloud-native software focused on edge deployments, you participate in the open source community and you thrive in technically leading initiatives. You believe in agile software development methodologies, you take ownership of your code and believe in test driven development. You are passionate about understanding customer needs and give priority in delivering the highest quality code. You are a team player, you enjoy mentoring junior engineers and also a willing learner.As a software developer, you will be expected to understand the customer requirements and various edge deployment scenarios, work on POCs(Proof of Concept), design and develop a comprehensive Tanzu Edge solution.What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis? Understand non-datacentre deployments and design solutions to improve Kubernetes in these environmentsExplore different ways of deploying and managing KubernetesUnderstand how VMware leverages the Kubernetes Cluster API for cluster deploymentCreate internal test frameworks and validation to ensure that non-datacentre deployments work wellReproduce and evaluate customer configurations in lab environmentsBuild instrumentation to measure and observe Kubernetes deployment processesCollaborating with functional teams across VMware and with the Kubernetes community to improve Kubernetes for non-datacentre deploymentsTest and explore new deployment topologies and design solutions to any problems that you findWork with functional teams to improve TKG for edge use casesDesign and implement features, triage, review and respond to incoming issues and pull requests, ensure high code quality and correctness through testing and factoring, and maintain ​documentation, release notes, etc.Participate in reviews, discussions in the slack, mailing lists and meetings.Mentor, provide direction and guidance to junior engineers and new hires in the team.Work in a distributed team across multiple geographical locations.Contribute to upstream Kubernetes projects wherever necessaryWhat is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like? The hiring manager for this role is Siddharth Bhadri, Engineering Manager at VMware. He is Leading and Driving the deliverables for Tanzu Edge and related areas.Tanzu Edge Engineering Team in India will work closely with the Tanzu global team and the global Kubernetes community.Siddharth will work with you to set the direction, provide guidance, and remove impediments.
