Illumina is looking for an exceptional technical leader to join our Software Technical Product Management organization.  This team is responsible product feature definition, system analysis and design, product discovery and experimentation, backlog prioritization and release management across all Illumina software products . This role fills a critical leadership position in the organization, and the successful candidate must have extensive experience in designing complex software solutions, preferably in medical devices, creating and driving detailed planning and scheduling, and representing software in cross-functional product teams.  The role is also responsible for people management of the team of Technical Product Managers, including staffing, performance management, and development of those resources.  The environment requires delivery of complex components to challenging timelines, so this leader must be able to achieve high levels of efficiency and coordination, motivating their team and working effectively with senior management to ensure that critical projects are delivered on time.All About YouLeadership role in the Software Technical Product Management (SW TPM) – ensure consistency of technology and processes across the entire SW product portfolio.Manage Instrument SW TPM team – this team focuses on system design and requirements for instrument control and service software that powers one or more of Illumina’s industry-leading DNA sequencing devices.Work directly with diverse, cross-functional engineering teams to define and document the detailed design of complex software systemsRepresent the Instrument SW organization in cross-functional R&D Core Teams tasked with delivering complete instrument products.Fill the people-management role for the team of technical product managers, including staffing, performance management, coaching, task assignment, training, and development.Collaborate with Instrument Leadership, Product Management, Product Marketing, and other stakeholders to define short-term, medium-term and long-term roadmap for Instrument SW portfolioParticipate in the Instrument SW leadership team and support Center of Excellence visionEnsure the team’s compliance with relevant development and functional processes.Promote and drive innovation in technologies, processes, and tools for cutting-edge SW developmentLearn and have fun with some of the smartest people you’ll ever meet!Education:Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experienceRequirements:10+ years of experience in the software development field, with embedded SW experience a strong plus5+ years of experience directly leading software projects3+ years of direct people managementExpert in system analysis and design, end to end user workflow definition, formalized requirements gathering methods and tools.Strong knowledge of agile scrum methodologies and experience in using those methods to deliver complex software componentsHigh level of comfort with SW architecture and object oriented design conceptsExceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skillsSelf-starter mentality with excellent communication skillsProven ability to mentor and coach engineers in day-to-day scenarios as well as develop their skills over the long termExperience participating in and driving cross-organizational or inter-company collaborationMust thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with challenging schedulesExperience in biotech, medical devices is a plus, as is experience with developing SW to FDA clinical standardsThe estimated base salary range for the Senior Manager, Software Development role based in the United States of America is: $163,900 - $245,900. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
